Bv United Press JOLIET, 111., Oct . 17.—Nathan Leopold and Loeb, murderers of Bobby Franks, were ordered to hard labor today for the first time since they were imprisoned in the Joliet penitentiary seven years ago. Leopold, who had the sinecure assignment of secretary to the prison chaplain, was transferred to shop work at the new Statesville prison, apparently because he violated prison regulations concerning delivery of official prison messages. TRAINS COLLIDE IN MIST; THREE DIE; m HURT Burned, Crushed to Death as Boilers Explode; Engines Telescope. Bu United Press CLEVELAND, 0., Oct. 17.—Three members of a train crew were killed and four others injured, one perhaps fatally, in the collision of a shuttle and mail train on the New York Central right of way here early today. * Vision of their pilots, obscured by a drizzling rain and a bend in the track, the two trains piled together in a jumbled mass of wreckage, boilers exploding and scalding or crushing to death three members of the crew. The dead: Charles Graf, 65, brakeman. Henry Sprouse, 48, fireman, and Jerry F. Dixon, 45, conductor. All are from Cleveland. The injured are Frank McCarthy, 42, engineer of the westbound train; Thomas Henahan, 59, engineer; Clarence Sheffield, 35, fireman, and William Harnnett, 34, flagman. McCarthy was scalded and at the hospital was reported in a critical condition.
