PROPOSE CASH FOR VETERANS;, PROSPERITY AID blouse Group Will Support Wove for Payment of War Certificates. B'J ScrlOßi-HO’ror't .Vetr.DODcr AUtinct WASHINGTON, Oct. 16—By seeking reduction of interest World war veterans have to pay for loans made on their adjusted service certificates, a group in the house of the coming lame-duck session will Seek to have renovated the entire law governing payment of these certificates. The chief aim of the proposed revision is to have the government pay the certificates at once, in cash. Asa reason for payment of these certificates now, sponsors of the proposal say it will put approximately $2,000,000,000 in circulation and help end the economic depression. This is but one phase of veteran’s legislation that congress will be asked to consider this winter. Efforts will be made to have the veterans’ pension bill, passed in tke closing days of the last session, amended so as to give ex-soldiers of the World war pensions equal to those received by Spanish war veterans under the law that also passed last session over the President's veto. The American Legion in its Boston convention this year did not go on record as favoring payment in cash of the adjusted compensation certificates; but the plan got approval by the margin of one vote in committee. The convention itself tabled the report, but went on record as favoring reduction from 6 to 4 per cent of. interest that veterans now have to pay. Representative Wright Patman of Texas returning this week from the Boston conventoin announced his intention of pressing a measure for cash payments he already had introduced.
