FIRST BLIZZARD OF YEAR TEARS : THROUGH WEST Entire Rocky Mountain Region Gets Taste of Winter. Ba rnifnt Prrgt DENVER. Oct. 16. Chilling Winds, snow and sleet gave the entire Rocky mountain region its first real taste of winter today, crippled traffic on land and in the air, and sent temperatures in many cities to below freezing. The snow, churned into a blizzard In many sections, swirled across Montana. Wyoming, Colorado. Idaho and Utah. In Denver it melted as it fell, but froze again, covering streets with a dangerous icy coating. At Helena and Miles City, Mont., the storm drove the temperature down to 12 points below freezing. In Wyoming, also, the mercury dropped below freezing and the storm raged so furiously it forced down lieutenants Irvin Woodring and William Caldwell, army fliers who were speeding across the continent carrying copies of the Japanese ratification of the London naval treaty. Pocatello, Idaho, and Salt Lake City reported sleet, which rapidly was turning into snow, and other sections were feeling the effects of the storm in varying degrees of intensity.

CRUSADING PASTOR IS ATTACKED IN SUIT Federal Radio Commission Probing BUI Against “Silent Bob” Shuler. By Scritws-Howard Netosmoer Alliance WASHINGTON, Oct. 16.—The federal radio commission today is investigating a bill of complaint filed against the Rev. Robert P. Shuler, whose famous church crusading by radio has been stirring Los Angeles for more than four years. The complaint, filed by George D. Lyons, a Los Angeles legion official, asks revocation on the ground that the Los Angeles vice crusader has abused the privileges of the air by use of vindictive language. Chief Investigator William J. Clearman will make a recommendation within a few days. The Rev. Mr. Shuler, called ironically “Silent Bob,” has taken the air stump in many a civic and political battle. Backed by his local flock he has assailed not only the underworld, but evangelists, bankers, newspaper publishers and Governors.

Samuel Mueller, who has been active in Community Fund work for the last ten years, is serving as chairman of the individual gifts division for the eleventh annual Community Fund campaign, which will open Friday and will continue through Oct. 27. Six hundred volunteer workers are serving under Mueller. Arthur V. Brown, Union Trust Company president, is chairman of the drive and the goal is $865,000. Twentyfive hundred workers will participate in the solicitation of pledges.
