GLEANING AUTO RADIATOR CUTS REPAIR OUSTS Poor Circulation of Water Results in Frequent Garage Bills. More and more motorists are appreciating that the economical and successful use of a motor car is dependent largely on the radiator, says Vern Reed of Reed-Mueller, Inc., 111-119 Kentucky avenue. This company specializes in auto radiator work. Located as it is, within a block .of the heart of the city, is has a drive-in service by which a car may be left in the morning, the necessary work done upon it, and the car driven from the shop in the evening. There is space for forty-five cars in the shop at one time. “Overheating really is the beginning of all motor troubles of a serious nature, and proper functioning of the cooling system prevents many motor ills,” Reed. Efficiency Decreased “Examination of the radiators from a large number of pleasure cars and trucks, which have had enough service to need repairing, establishes that these radiators only are from 40 per cent to 60 per cent efficient, as compared to those on I anew car. “This efficiency is decreased by the accumulation of grease, scale and particles of rubber from the hose used in the cooling system. “Grease inside of a radiator grows and picks up the sediment and bits of rubber, and in time will close the tubes and waterways entirely. Further, if this sediment is permitted to remain, it will deteriorate the zinc to such extent that in time the radiator becomes porous and is worthless. Boiling Harms Metal “It practically is impossible to repair a radiator in such a condition, as the grease will hold small leaks that will not show up under an air pressure test. The radiator may be removed from the car, repaired to withstand the air test, and yet when replaced will leak as the vibration jars loose the scale. “Therefore the radiator always should be cleaned properly before it is repaired. Wt can not approve the practice of boiling a radiator in a strong chemical solution, as this in most instances proves detrimental to the metal. We therefore have developed the R. & M. system, which, with the R. & M. solution, will clean the radiator without boiling. \ “It also cleans the entire cooling system of the car, including the motor block and pump, without re- ! moving the radiator from* the car. | This R. & M. system is a guar an- | teed cure for overheating cars.”
PRACTICE GIVEN IN LAW SCHOOL Courts of City Serve as College Classrooms. For thirty-six years the Indiana law school, located at 143 East Ohio street, has been preparing students for the practice of their profession. This school, with a faculty of fourteen prominent attorneys of this city, and under the leadership of James A. Rohbach, dean, has enjoyed a high enrollment the last two years, more than 150 students having been instructed, compared to about 100 a year for several years previously. The school is unique in that it makes its training very practical by resorting to the courts of the city for demonstrations of the actual practice of law. Following the system of instruction advocated by the association of American law schools, and with a library equipped fully for needs of the school, it makes a regular practice of holding all its classes in the mornings,, giving students the opportunity to work either at means of livelihood or in the study of actual proceedings in the afternoon. The school runs from the third Wednesday in September to the Wednesday following June 3 each year. The tuition fee is fixed at $l5O a year, payable in three instalments. Thus it affords the opportunity for young men of limited means to secure a thoroughly practical education in the principles and practice of law, which opportunity has been taken advantage of by hundreds of attorneys since the school’s opening thirty-six years ago.

Misaligned Car Wheels Are Both Dangerous and Costly to Driver
Specialized Service Station Offers Public Speedy, Efficient Work. Recent investigation has shown that fully one-half of the automobiles in use today are giving unsatisfactory service because of misalignment of wheels or axles, or both. The average driver does not realize the importance of maintaining proper alignment, which prevents steering troubles and costly tire scuffing. Regardless of how carefully a manufacturer may build a car, or how efficient and accurate the alignment job may be, a few weeks’ driving may have disarranged the intricate balance which must be maintained if the owner is to have comfortable and economical service from Ills car. Accident Is Possible A car that steers hard is dangerous. Wheels must incline inward at bottom and front, and the front axle must tilt backward. These easily are thrown out of line by a bump hardly noticed at the time, by sagging springs, or by applying the brakes suddenly, Balloon tires and front wheel brakes twist the axle, upsetting both the tilt of the axle and alignment of the wheels, making the car hard to steer. Weaving, wandering, hard steering and shimmying may cause a car to go into a ditch any minute, may cause a regrettable accident. When axles are out of line the wheels are dragged sideways along the road, grinding away the life of tires. Work Done Quickly Examination of tires frequently reveals them pitted, gouged on the tread of worn uneven. Motorists should examine their tires frequently because improper alignment costs more in wear of tires than the service the Bear Scientific Wheel Aligning Station offers. This firm, located at 928 East Washington street, is equipped with the Bear axle press, which will straighten bent or twisted axles cold, giving a perfect job. It is not necessary to tie up a car two days while the axle is taken out, because the firm can turn out the entire job in a few hours. The station now is equipped with the famous Bear precision tools that measure accurately to the sixteenth of an inch, according to Wiliam D. Furlow, service manager. Service Guaranteed “Hie Bear station restores cars to their original factory condition, so they handle and steer like new, guaranteeing a perfect job or no charge,” he said. In order to acquaint the public with this specialized service, the station is making a worthwhile special offer, giving cars a regular $2.50 thorough checkup free the first time, guaranteeing to find the trouble. Furlow is a mechanic with fifteen years’ experience in diagnosing automoible front system quickly and efficiently. A visit to the Bear Scientific Wheel Aligning Station may save motorists many dollars and future trouble. FIRE LOSS CUT BY SPRINKLERS Automatic Device Smothers Flames at Start. Fires in the United States reduce to ashes about $500,000,000 of usable property each year. That, however, is only a part of the loss, for the reason that insurance rates must be enough to cover and maintain the insurance companies, business must suffer from the loss of time, and workers must suffer from unemployment. While these latter figures must be estimated, it probably is true that fire costs every man, woman and child in the United States about $72 each in a year. Most of this loss is preventable. Two effective ways exist. One is better construction of buildings and better handling of stocks. The other is better fire fighting and more prevention. With the former time probably will work out a vast improvement. With the latter, the use of the automatic sprinkler appears to be the most effective way of preventing big fires by quenching little ones. The automatic sprinkler is a device that goes into operation when the heat in a room exceeds normal. That action consists of spraying a Stream of water and sounding an alarm. When sprinklers are so placed as to cover the area of a room, the fire often is extinguished before the aid summoned by the alarm arrives. Such a system saves property and often life. The Indianapolis Automatic Sprinkler Company, 702 East Market street, is a local firm that installs, extends and repairs these systems. It has placed this protection in many Indiana businesses, and it will be pleased to talk the matter over of making any place as near fireproof as human ingenuity is able to make it. Housekeeping Ideas Carried Out in Operation of Popular Firm. Since its foundation more than thirty-five years ago by former Mayor Lew Shank, the Shank storage business has become an institution to a great many people of this city. . Conducted now on the same lines that made it successful in her husband’s lifetime, Mrs. Shank maintains its popularity, and with it operates a truck line using twenty vans for moving goods anywhere. There are several features about the Shank fireproof warehouse, 1430 North Illinois street, that are different. One is the extreme cleanliness, in which Mrs. Shank carries out her former housekeeping ideas. The place is cleaned thoroughly ones each week. Like most good housewives, Mrs. Shank maintains an incessant warfare against moths. It is, as she has expressed herself, no disgrace for a storage warehouse to get moths. They may come in with the next receipt of goods. But, Mrs. Shank says, it is a disgrace to keep them. So the place is fumigated every week to make life miserable for the pests, and with all the thoroughness of a good housekeeper the moths are run down and exterminated. Asa special protection there is a vault provided for draperies, furs and similar articles. It is as near moth-proof as possible. Also It practically is burglar-proof, even having a tear gas arrangement ready for the unlucky thief who might get the door open. Safety deposit boxes are provided for the storage of especially valuable things. Special storage rooms, kept at the right degree of heat and humidity, are Provided for pianos. The woman who has goods to store will appreciate all these precautions, for with them goes the knowledge that her goods will not be lost or damaged while in storage. Marketing School Opens Bv Times Special GREENCASTLE, Ind., Oct. 13. S. C.
