In session Wednesday afternoon, Todd Stoops, committee chairman, declared the traffic situation presents extreme difficulties. “The answer to the question is 100 more policemen,” he declared. “More men with motorcycles and autos are needed to help enforce the laws while others take traffic posts on streets in and near the downtown district.” Captain Lewis Johnson, head of the police traffic department, agreed with Stoops, pointing out that only eleven motorcycle policemen are on each eight-hour shift. These officers must cover fifty-six square miles, he told the committee. William H. Committee members admitted Indianapolis streets are marked poorly and that many cities of the country, - both smaller and larger, have nearly perfect street markings. Need for additional officers to protect school children brought the suggestion from the committee that patrolmen on residence section beats be enlisted for traffic service whenever possible to aid in relieving the situation. The committee referred a proposed

Adams, puts out of commission eighteen destroyers, two and twenty-five submarines. The plan was developed by Admiral William V. Pratt Reduction in enlisted" personnel will be accomplished by reducing recruiting from 400 to 200 per month, commencing Nov. 1. “The purpose of the fleet which we maintain now naturally is one for training,” Admiral Pratt said. “Our destroyers are beginning to get old and shopworn.
