VETERANS FIGHT CHURCH BUYING Captain English Camp Hits Memorial Project. Resolution protesting demands on Marion county commissioners to purchase two churches on the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza today was added to other similar protests by Captain William English Camp. No. 84, United Spanish War Veterans. The resolution further protested to Governor Harry G. Leslie that the board of trustees for the memorial not only have ignored provisions of the law authorizing the memorial, but have wasted money on a statue and on improvement of sidewalks in University Square. The Spanish war veterans, calling attention to a proviso of the statute authorizing the churches to remain on the plaza twenty-five years, protest against immediate purchase of the churches “during the present business depression and unemployment, at an excessive valuation.” DEMOCRATS 60 : ‘DRIPPING WET’ Rhode Island Party Demands Dry Law Repeal. ,V PRGSDENCE, R. 1., oct. I.—A “dripping wet” plank calling for rtpeal of both the eighteenth amendment and Rhode Island’s •‘baby Volstead act” was inserted in the platform at the Democratic state convention here today. The plank declared, in effect, that the evils of prohibition were just as manifest as the evils of the old-time saloon.
