CANDIDATE’S PENSION BARED IN CAMPAIGN I Senate Aspirant Killed Bonus Act; | Draws Big Sum From U. S. By Bcrivpo-Haward Heuitpapcr Alliance HELENA, Mont, Sept. 30.—The bitter battle between Thomas J. Walsh, veteran United States senator, and Judge Albert Galen, his Republican opponent for the senate, has taken an amusing turn for the moment. Galen, as a justice of the state supreme court, some time ago wrote an opinion that killed a soldiers’ bonus act passed by the legislature. This legislation had been sought earnestly by ex-service men. Now Montana newspapers are publishing the fact that Judge Galen is receiving a monthly pension of $218.75, as a retired officer in the World war, and that he received a few months ago back compensation amounting to $2,148.45. The papers in his case recited that he had developed heart trouble i while with the American forces in Siberia. He was given a3O per cent disability rating and allowed 75 per cent of fiis pay. GUARD ROUTS MOB Soldiers Halt Attempt to Lynch Negro Suspect. Bu United Prrm HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Sept. 30. Quiet was restored around the Madison county jail today with national guardsmen in command of a situation which had forced them earlier to use tear gas bombs, bayonets and fire hose in handling a menacing crowd. Inside the jail was G. E. Henderson, a Negro originally held on suspicion of murderously assaulting G. E. Ross, Huntsville business man. and Mrs. Ross, during an attempted robbery Sunday night. Authorities announced Monday Henderson was not the man sought and reiterated the announcement today. The amount of natural and artificial gas produced in the world in a year would fill a dirigible a mile in diameter and twenty miles long, powerful enough to lift the Egyptian pyramids.
