Big Floodlights Rival Sunshine on Roof-Top Miniature Golf Course

HBwi „ f l mwSm ~ J

Outstanding and unique among the hundreds of miniature golf courses in Indiana is the one o:i the roof of the Test building. It is one of the few roof courses in the entire country which, coupled with the fact that it is exceptionally well constructed from the best materials available, makes it attractive to those who enjoy the popular putting pastime. The lighting system employed in this exceptional miniature layou.

Laundry Devises Improved Tag

r, jj •

Good laundries long have felt the necessity of an improved method of marking many items of apparel for identification. Years ago a metal tag was introduced which clasped through the fabric. While it served the purpose of identification, the tag, unfortunately, snagged the material in which it was clasped and often left an unsightly hole. Aside from damage to the fabric, the wearer often found the tag aggravating, when it came in contact with the skin, and inclined to catch on other apparel. In Prance the better laundries baste a bit of cloth, bearing the identification, to the garment. This work is done by hand and with a few loose stitches and, while it hao advantages over the metal clasp tag so far as the wearer is concerned, it is too slow and too expensive to be practical in American laundries where volume and costs always are a consideration in order to keep prices down. From the French method, the Best Grand Laundry gleaned an idea which, in turn, has brought about an entirely new process of marking garments that makes obsolete the old time metal tag idea. Working in collaboration with the Singer Sewing Machine Company, the Best Grand Laundry has caused to be perfected a machine which chain stitches a small, neat cloth label to all pieces of laundry which formerly required metal clasp tags. This label carries the identifying characters and is just as sightly as the labels sewed in the neckbands of fine shirts. No metal, no rough stitches and no uncertain handwork. In a flash this new machine attaches sightly, uniform labels which meet with the instant approval of the most discriminating people. Chain stitches, as most women know, are removed easily. The label can be pulled off instantly without strain or mussing tns fabric. But the label will not come off until the thread is broken or pulled, thereby assuring some degree of permanency if desired. The Best Grand laundry’ has no

particularly is noteworthy. There is a freedom from shadows which makes night playing every bit as enjoyable as that done by daylight. The reason for this is the Benjamin Duo-Sendee floodlights designed particularly for miniature golf links whose patrons demand the best of playing conditions. These new-type lighting fixtures combine a diffusing reflector with an intensive beam floodlighting projector 'that meets the modern

interest in the new Singer labelsewing machine other than that it presents a means of giving their customers the ultra-service so characteristic of this institution. Being the first in the country to install and use this fast, efficient la-bel-attaching invention, the Best Grand laundry is proud of the fact

Quality Work Creed of Cleaning Company

It isn't how little can be done to each garment for the smallest amqunt of money, but how much quality can be built into this service that will insure long life that clothing should give, according to H. C. Thomas of Allen & Thomas Cleaners, 1122-24 West Thirtieth street. Thomas has been engaged activeI ly in business of cleaning and refinishing textiles for thirty years and C. L. Allen, his partner, for eighteen years. They started in business at the j present location eleven years ago, occupying a modest three-room building which they built on the back of the lot. Persistent effort, a vision and desire to provide the finest service possible, using only the best materials available, compelled them to add to their buildings and equipment. They now occupy the entire space of a concrete fire-proof building 30 by 160 feet, with every modern convenience for efficient service. The cleaning department is under direct supervision of Thomas. Machinery is of the latest type and the solvent is the best obtainable, being distilled before use to insure freedom from moisture, oils and all foreign matters, thus assuring return of garments with colors revived, clean and odorless. Allen personally supervises the 1 pressing and finishing department,

that it is responsible for its development and first to give Indianapolis homes this improved service. It is predicted that within the next few years good laundries everywhere will be equipped with labelsswing machines such as now are in use in the Best Grand plant.

which is equipped with the latest and most efficient machinery. Only expert operators are employed. “It is not the amount of work turned out that retains these positions,’’ Allen said. “One job well done is worth more than dozens turned out in a half-hearted, careless manner.’’ At this season the firm is busy helping its patrons with house cleaning and is specializing on the cleaning of oriental rugs, draperies and house furnishings. A well-organized delivery system is maintained, serving every part of the city. , . * Hold Girl as Shoplifter Detectives today held Miss Josephine Scgafer, 19, of Alexandria, on grand larceny charges, following her alleged confession that she stole clothing valued at $<W.43 from downtown stores.

HOME OWNERS PROTECTED BY GOOD ROOFING Replacing Entire Surface Often Is Cheaper Than Several Repairs. Within the next few weeks a great many roofs in this section will be gone over. Some of them will be patched, postponing until later the inevitable replacement. Others will be covered over with some of the newer roofing materials, and the ■ end of the roofing troubles will be found, while still others will be torn off and new roofing will be put on. Which of these methods will be best must be governed by the individual circumstances. Generally ; speaking, it rarely pays to try to patch an old roof. Sooner or later the wo; tc will have to be done over j the remaining part of the roof, and | the expense of getting ready to do j | the work several times may be al- I most as much as it would cost to 1 replace the whole of it "at once. Double Roof Provided Especially is this true now that j so many roofing materials are being placed right bver the o’d shingles. Thus a double roof is provided, withal the benefits of its ini sulation from heat and cold, to- ! gether with its protectioa of the building from the elements. The Henry C. Smither Roofing j Company, 430 South Meridian j i street, thoroughly is equipped to j ! relieve property owners of all their j roofing worries. From the experience gained in hundreds of such i jobs they are able to show property j j owners how they may save a consid- j ! erable amount of money and, at | , the same time have a better roof- j : ing job than they contemplated. ! The firm always is ready to talk j over roofing problems and give ad- j vice to property owners. Firm Is Experienced Backed by an experience of thirty-nine years, the Smither Company is in a position to do all kinds of roofing work, installing every kind of roofing, renewing roofing and making repairs. Tile, slate, tin, asbestos, asphalt or any other kind of roofing is handled with the knowledge gained by loryf experience. A telephone call, Li. 4937, is the first step in the soj lution of all roofing problems.

BAINS RESULT BY USE OF AD Store Manager Has Proof of Effectiveness. Louis Speropoulos, manager of the Lemcke Service Shop, 108 East Market street, has proof that a small advertisement on this page is read thoroughly. The last insertion of a two-inch advertisement of the service shop carried an eiror in price for dry cleaning and pressing dresses. Speropoulos said that it was necessary to clean and press 103 dresses at the price quoted. “While we don’t like to lose money on any of our work,” he said, “we were glad to do so in this instance, because it proved to us that people thoroughly read The Times’ Business and Industrial review page. “Also, following the publication of our small advertisement we received more than 150 felt hats to be cleaned and blocked. This service also was advertised in The Times.” COW SETS HIGH RECORD Indianapolis Man’s Jersey Qualifies for Register of Merit.
