WETS DOMINATE N. Y. CONCLAVE OF REPUBLICANS Repeal Plank Committee Mostly Moist: Stimson Praises Hoover. llu Cuitcd Pra * ALBANY, N. Y . Sept. 25.—Wets apparently dominated the committee on rules and resolutions which will decide whether a prohibition repeal plank will go into the state Republican platform, it was revealed today when the appointments were announced. The committee of fifty-one members included a solid bloc of twentysix wets from Greater New York, in addition to a number of wets from upstate districts. Before opening of the convention, prohibition was the big issue being discussed in the corridors and on the streets. Dr. Butler Leader Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler, president of Columbia university, was active as a proponent of a prohibition repeal plank. Wets were jubilant over an announcement bv Judge Isadore Bookstein, chairman of the Albany delegation, that he believed his delegates would tote 100 per cent wet. A band playing “How Dry I Am" greeted delegates as they arrived. President Hoover has carried out thirty-four of thirty-five pledges mbde In the Republican platform, Secretary of State Henry D. Stimson told the convention in the keynote address. He pronounced the administration the most successful in his forty years of political observation and felt additional credit accrued because its accomplishments had been recorded in the face of the great obstacles created by business depression. Stimson Shuns Question Although prohibition is the big question before the convention, Stimson made no mention of it, confining himself to a discussion of the record of the Hoover administration. Some disposition of prohibition deemed necessary because of the position taken by Charles H. Tuttle, leading candidate for the nomination for Governor. He has announced that unless a plank calling for repeal of the prohibition law is inserted in the Republican platform he does not care to be the party's candidate. The tentative slate, while it took a position of secondary importance to the prohibition split, stood as follows: For Governor. Charles H. Tuttle of New' York; for Lieuten-ant-Governor, Benjamin Namm of Kings county; for controller. Daniel H. Conway of Oswego; for attorneygeneral, Hamilton Ward (incumbent) or Charles G. Blakeslee of Binghamton. * GERMANS’ ACTIVITIES IN NEUTRAL U. S. BARED Tried to Destroy Allied Stock. Ships, Counsel Admits at Claims Parley. II 'i I nited Press THE HAGUE, Holland. Defects in the administration building of the municipal airport, pointed out by the city works board, will be remedied immediately, W. C. McGuire of McGuire & Shook, architects for the structure, declared today. McGuire told the board the defects were of minor nature. By letter, McGuire outlined “adverse conditions” which have been faced in construction of the building. The letter answered one sent by the board calling attention to the situation. * “The defects will be corrected as a matter of routine,” McGuire said. “We never anticipated the work would be done Any building under construction might have the same defects, but, naturally. we would see they were corrected.” McGuire criticised the board for permitting The Times to print the contents of the board’s letter to his firm.
