‘BURY HATCHET’ ► WITH LONG TO BUILD LOUISIANA Foes, Hostile Press Call Truce to Help Governor's Employment Program. J2u T'nitri] Prctt BATON ROUGE, La., Sept. 17. Political turmoil, which has domniated Louisiana affairs for the last two years, was brought to a temporary halt today. Governor Huey P. Long, who won the Democratic senatorial nomination last week, said he and his opponents have agreed to “bury the hatchet” until the next general election, some fourteen months away. An extraordinary session of the Louisiana legislature is in session. Already steps have been taken to have impeachment charges brought against Long, in March, 1929, dismissed. The young Governor, opposed by almost every newspaper in the state during his two years in the executive office, had the backing of these same papers today for his wide program of “building Louisiana.” The extraordinary session of the legislature, which will last eight days, was expected to pass every measure advocated by Long. Political opponents of the 36-year-old executive, who overwhelmingly defeated Senator Joseph Ransdell in the recent primary, have stepped aside. Long’s program, outlined at a Joint session of the Louisiana house and senate Tuesday night, is a $90,000,000 building program, offered to relieve distressing unemployment conditions. GRANT EXECUTION STAY Alleged Slayer of Sheriff Given Time for Appeal. A stay of execution was granted by the state supreme court today for James Anderson of Brookville, convicted in Franklin circuit court, on a charge of murdering Sheriff Herman Laing of Ripley county. The court granted a stay from Oct. 1, 1930, to Feb. 6, 1931, pending filing of an appeal by Raymond Springer, Anderson's attorney. Anderson was tried in Franklin |On a change of venue. FACTORY IS ' OPPOSED Sherman-Emerson Civic League Fights Creamery Project. Opposition to establishment of a manufacturing company on North Gladstone avenue, between Tenth and Eleventh streets, will be carried before the city plan commission Tuesday by members of the Sher-man-Emerson Civic League. The building formerly was occupied by the Triangle Creamery and officials of another creamery are attempting to obtain the site for manufacturing purposes. STUMP SPEAKERS’ HEAD Former Democratic Senate Nom-' ince Named by Swain. Albert Stump, twice Democratic nominee for the United States senate, today was appointed chairman of the Democratic county committee's speakers’ bureau by H. Nathan Swain, county chairman. The new chairman opened offices the county headquarters, third floor State Life building. Legal Notices INDIANA WORLD WAR MEMORIAL NOTICE TO BIDDERS I.
