SPYING CHARGE HURLED BY NYE Mrs. McCormick's Move Draws Counter-Attack. § B v United Presß CHICAGO, Sept. 16.—Countercharges ol unwarranted espionage were thrown back at Ruth Hanna McCormick, Illinois Republican senatorial candidate, by Senator Gerald P. Nye ot North Dakota today when he resumed his investigation into Mrs. McCormick’s campaign expenditures. Early in July, Senator Nye declared, a campaign of espionage was directed against the senate campaign funds investigating committee, of which he is chairman. “Operatives had the effrontery,’’ Nye said, "to go to the friends of the chairman and ask who would be close enough to him to make him .see the light and do the right thing.’ “There was good reason to believe 'at the author of this campaign nad the possible purpose of obt?‘ning facts unfavorable to the bers in order to hinder the inquiry.” Mrs. McCormick had charged that employes of the senate committee investigating her primary campaign expenditures had been ‘guilty of the crime of wire tapping’’ and that if Senator Nye knew it he was unfit to be a senator.” BUS PLEA ACTION DUE Safety Board Probes Operation of New School Route. Investigation of the operation of a bus line by Logan J. Smith to accommodate pupils of Technical and Shortridge high school and Butler university students, was ordered today by the safety board.
