r LYNHURST FIGHT IS STIRRED BY ADDITIONAL TAX Residents Are Irate Over Levying of Special Assessment. Levying cf a special tax assessment against residents of the town of Lynhurst to pay off a debt said to have been unwittingly incurred two years ago by Ernest Kellogg, dethroned mayor, must be repeated this year when the town board meets Tuesday to draw the 1931 budget, the officials said today. Already irate at paying an extra 50 cents on each SIOO of taxable property to pay off a SSOO note executed by Kellogg in an “improvement" campaign, at least ten families have threatened to vacate the town if the assessment is raised ab<#e 50 cents to hasten payment of the obligation. Made Satisfactory Showing The corporate limits of the town include fourteen acres more area than prior to the annexation. As result of the difficulties, the state board of accounts was called to examine the financial condition of the town, and to obtain from Kellogg an explanation of what became of SSOO he obtained through executing a bank note. w Kellogg made a satisfactory showing of the disposition of the funds, despte claims of residents that the money never was used according to original plans. Forced to Renew Note Floyd Newton, secretary to the ex-mayor, is said to have stated publicly the money never was accounted for in town records. Town board members, with Don Brannigan as chairman, .will be forced to renew the note this year at their own risk. Suit was threatened by the bank unless the debt was settled or the note renewed, residents say. Originally, residents claim, Kellogg failed to provide for payment of the note in the town budget.. It now rests with taxpayers to shoulder the obligation, although they realized no benefits from the money, it is claimed. Hull as a method of relieving unemployment. Recent action of the Canadian government stopping all immigration to that country, except from Great Britain or the United States, will be cited by Commissioner Hull as a precedent for delegating such authority to the President.
