JUSTICE HUGHES i CITES NEED OF I LAW ASPECT Much More Important Than Uniform Statutes, Bar Group Is Told. * m JJv T nitr<9 rrenn CHICAGO. Aug 22.—The greatest eed in this country today is improvement in the administration of the criminal law, Charles Evans Hughes, chief justice of the United State; supreme court, said Thursday right in an address before the fifty- hird annual convention of the American Bar Association. "More important than uniform laws, or mere changes in procedural details, more necessary than any statement of the law, is fostering of respect for law itself,” Hughes said, "and the maintenance of the primary safeguards of life and property against the debauching of our institutions by the capitalization of crime.” The chief justice spoke from the stage of Chicago's new civic opera house and devoted the major portion of his address, which was broadcast to welcome foreign guests to the convention. He reviewed for them the origins and structure of American government. BRAND CLEO AS FAKER £</ l nitrii Prr* * PARIS. SIO,OOO IS PAID FOR YEAR BOOK Indiana Annual Most Expensive Ever Published. Indiana's 1930 year book, now being distributed from the office of the state printing board, is the most elaborate and expensive ever issued by the state. There are 25,000 copies, costing 40 cents each, making a total printing bill for the Ft. Wayne Printing Company and the Stafford Engraving Company of SIO,OOO, according to J. Otto Lee. Lee is secretary of the printing board, and compiled the book. Other members of the committee in charge of publication were State Auditor Archie Bobbitt and Miss Genevieve Brown, reporter of the supreme and appellate courts. Text of the book was written by each department and edited by Lee. The book is in imitation leather binding and contains pictures of state and national public officials of Indiana and its institutions.
of the approaches and the bridge entry are shown above. Boulevard lights will be installed within a few days, and the park board is considering plans for six sets of traffic lights. Paving of the approaches was made possible after the city purchased two adjacent * triangular tracts for $78,000. The paving itself cost $26,199. A forty-foot circie has been left in the center of Delaware street for construction of a monument by the Pioneer Women of Indiana. The approaches connect with Fall Creek boulevard, Delaware Washington boulevard and Talbot avenue.
