1930 Wives Clamp Ban on Cheating BY MARTHA LEE Husbands and wives have a way of easing their conscience about matters concerning morals these days. / Th old-rashioned stepping, out has been glorified into something arespectable by a lot of husbards and wives who find the company of one man or one woman rather boring. In the gay nineties and early twenties stepping out was entirely a masculine pursuit. Wives very probably knew about it, but they closed their eyes, sighed and accepted it as part of man's nature to require a diversity of acquaintances, including themselves. Parties Held at Home Part of that may have been dueto the fact that very few men partied” with their wives. When the men wanted a big time they joined up with a couple of other husbands and had their big times iar from the home grounds. Within the last ten years the scenes of revelry have been changed. Home is the party ground now. and as a consequence the wives get in on the merriment. Along with being allowed to vote, women have also claimed the right to join in the amusement their husbands find so entertaining. When there is any stepping out, any philandering to be done, the wives no longer sigh and act resigned. Ready to Take Role They claim the right to fidelity on the part of their husbands, since they no longer merely are cooks, housekeepers and wives. If the husband needs a playmate, the modern wife is ready to step into the role. And she actively resents any digression from the rules of the marriage game, a thing her mother and grandmother simply accepted as inevitable. This has its good points. Women have a right to expect their husbands to be as faithful as they expect to be themselves* A double standard isn't good for the husbands, their wives, nor the children. But the thing never will clear up and become an ideal situation by the women adopting the double standards for their own use. Lonely in Evening Women who figure that if they step out on their husbands they are avenging the wrong their husbands do them by stepping out are figuring all wrong. Two wrongs never did make a right, and they never willDear Miss Lee—l am married and have two children. husband is In town. He conies down every two weeks .'or the week-end. It is pretty lonely here in the evening, with nothing to do. Ail the other women are here with their husbands. The children are voung and go to bed early. At the hotel where we stav there is a bachelor who has talked to me frequently. We have become acquainted in a casual way. He has asked me to drive into a nearby town to see a movie. He also has asked me to go on rides with him. Do you think it would be all right under the circumstances? I'm sure he is perfectly all right and that he has asked me simply because he Is lonely, as I am. I am sure mv husband does not spend his time being lonesome. UNDECIDED. Hubby Provides Money I do not think it would be all right for you to go. The man may be perfectly all right, as you say, and he may be lonely, too, but it just Isn't playing cricket. Your husband has arranged for both you and your children to have a nice vacation, while he stays in town to provide the money. TINTED TOE-NAILS IS FAD AT DEAUVILLE
Bu United Prcjs PARIS, Aug. 15.—Unless women bathers at Deauville and the other luxury resorts on the channel have their toenails painted to match their bathing suits or beach pajamas, they are not in the fashionable swim. To cater to this new fashion fad, pedicurists stands now are regular features of the golden sands and even the ultra-smart hotels offer this new service, literally placing a trained and skilful staq of toe painters at the feet of those who grace the multi-mollion dollar beaches. Visitor Is Honored Miss Bernice Nathanson, 4020 Central avenue, entertained with a luncheon bridge party this afternoon at her home in honor of her guest, Miss Claire Mitchell, Kokomo.
