COLONEL GORE GETS HIS MAN ONCE MORE Murder Follows Murder When Lynn Brock Brings Back His Favorite Detective in a New Mystery Novel. BY WALTER D. HICKMAN Tjhjc creator of Bneriock Holmes, Sir Conan Doyle, before his death said that he was through with Sherlock. But the reading and show going public is not through with detectives of the Sherlock Holmes type. _ . . Lynn Brock created Colonel Gore and many consider the Colonel the logical successor of Sherlock if a successor is necessary. Brock brings back the Colonel in anew Harper and Brothers sealed mystery called "Murder on the Bridge.’’ . ... . Colonel Gore is not the picturesque character that 8^® rl °^ k fcis pipe, funny cap and cape. Gore is one of those thinking detective..
a man with imagination as well as a grim sense of humor. This is due of course to the mental way that Lynn Brock, the author weaves his yarns. This author first knows how to create a mysterious background. First, by the clevet Introduction of many characters and yet each character has a bearing upon the major crimes in "Murder On The Bridge.” In this story we are first concerned with the very brutal and crude murder of Doctor Melhuish and right then and there the author connects you with a mysterious nurse in a green uniform and then just as rapidly he introduces you to the shady reputation of a Dr. Dorch. It is the skillful way that Brock keeps Dorch in the picture when he really isn't. That proves the great cleverness of the author. There are numerous murders and the clever discovery of them by Colonel Gore. The author allows Inspector Lord to be more than a block head. He is not such a joke because he does some good work after Gore sets him on the right track. I do not believe in telling you the plot of any mystery but "Murder On The Bridge” has much more intelligence than the ordinary mine run mystery story. It has been constructed in a confusing way and yet the entire story will hold water. In other words all the murders were practical ones as seen by those who ordered them done. I recommend the latest experiences of Colonel Gore in "Murder On The Bridge.” Indianapolis theaters today offer: "Road to Paradise” at the Indiana, "Numbered Men” at the Circle, “The Social Lion” at the Ohio, "Raffles” at the Palace. "Dancing Sweeties” at the Apollo, and "Wild Company” at the Lyric. Breaks Neck in Shallow Dive LAFAYETTE. Ind.. Aug. 6.-rln.u----ries suffered by Earl D. Guinn, 16, when he dived into shallow water in Wildcat creek caused his death of a broken neck.
