H WILL GET DIPLOMAS AT NEGROSCHOOL Commencement at Lewis Business College Set for Friday. Second annual commencement program of the Lewis Business college. of which Mrs. V. T. Lewis is president, has been announced for Friday night at Jones Tabernacle A. M. E. Zion church, Michigan and Blackford streets. . Mrs. Lewis began her school here in 1929 at 244pwest Vermont street with one student. In January the rapidly growing enrollment necessitated larger quarters, which was established at 229 li Indiana avenue; thirty-eight students now are enrolled. Six students were graduated in 1929 and fourteen are to be awarded diplomas at Friday night's commencement. The Lewis Business college is the only school for business training operated by Negroes in Indiana. Subject* include shorthand, typewriting, bookkeeping, mimeographing and letter-writing. Graduates of this school already are filling responsible positions in offices of the city. Anderson Will Speak The program will include the commencement address by Thomas J. Anderson, recently named principal of the Attucks high school. This will be Anderson’s first public appearance. He is to be introduced by Dr. Sumner A. Furnlss. Anderson, new principal ol Attucka high school, took up his duties here Aug. 1 and has established his home at 4053 Rook wood avenue. He was accompanied to the citv by Mrs. Anderson and children. Except a few changes In office personnel. no radical changes are contemplated in the teacher staff of the high school, according to Anderson. Local leaders of the Negro group are planning a reception for Mr. and Mrs. Anderson soon after the fall terms begins, when vacationists are back in the city.
