KOLB AWAITS SENTENCE TO STATE PRISON Convicted of Manslaughter on Charge of Poisoning Third Wife. BY CHARLES E. CARLL Tim.* SUB < orrr.Dondmt GREENFIELD. Ind-, July 24.—1n the little, red brick Jail here, a grayhaired fanner of 57 today awaits the formal words of Judge Arthur C. Van Duyn, that he serve two to twenty-one years in the Indiana state prison. He is George Kolb of Rushville, convicted on a manslaughter charge by a Hancock county jury Wednesday afternoon for the murder of his third wife, Mru Edna Dagler Folb, last October. Early Release Not Possible TTie Jury h?ld that Kolb administered poison to his wife In a quinine capsule as the climax of a scheme to collect her insurance. Attorneys f>r the state and for Kolb believe the manslaughter sentence probably will amount to a life sentence for the prisoner. Meager possibility for Kolb to obtain an early release from prison was seen in view of the pending indictment for murder of his second w ife, Mrs. Mattie Laramore Kolb, In 1026, which will dangle over his head as long as he lives. Kolb's emotion was not effusive when the ten farmers and two j school teachers returned their verdict. It seemed to render him speechless. New Trial May Be Asked He stared, first at the Judge and then at the jury. He stared ahead, until he was led from the courtroom. His only comment came when he reached his cell, had stripped off his coat, and sat, dejectedly, on the edge of his bed. He said: “When these insurance companies go after you, it’s heck." Van Duyn was to pronounce formal sentence on Kolb either today or Friday. Defense attorneys may file anew trial motion but probably will not attempt to appeal. HELDON DRUNK CHARGE Crash Driver Is Arrested After Intersection Accident. Russell J. Mansfield, 639 North Gray street, was charged with drunken driving and failure to stop after an accident, when he is alleged to have attempted to escape after his auto collided with and overturned another machine at Ohio and Randolph streets early today. Harry Stewart, 38, of R. R. A.-17, Box 17, driver of the other car, was cut on the face and body, and sent to city hospital. POULTRYMEN ON TOUR 200 Hold Inspection Trip of Indianapolis Plants. Two hundred Indiana poultry and hatcherymen today inspected several industrial plants in Indianapolis on the last day of their sixth annual state poultry tour. They visited the Wadley Company. Acme-Svans mills, Kingan & Cos., Ltd., and the Overbrook farms, j of which W. C. Marmon is owner. Three in Hospital I’M Time Special NEWCASTLE. Ind., July 24. Three of eight Indiana persons injured in a bus accident July 10 at Ute pass on Pike’s peak, Colorado, are still in a hospital. They are Mrs. Paul Archibald. Newcastle: John Boyd and Henry Hernly, 81, Cambridge City.

Hickman, Charlie Davis, Newell Goodrich and Don Hastings are the five judges who will select the best “boop-boep-a-doop” girls at the Times-Helen Kane contest preliminary in the Indiana Roof ballroom at 8 o’clock Saturday night. Every girl living in the state of Indiana between the ages of 6 and 16, inclusive, is eligible to enter. The five best selected at Saturday night’s preliminary will appear in the finals on the Indiana theater stage Monday night at the second stage show, when the audience will assist Miss Kane in picking the best. Miss Kane, one of America’s most celebrated radio, record, stage and motion picture stars, will appear at the Indiana theater in person for one week, starting Friday. Prizes in the Helen Kane contest amount to SSO in cash and every entrant will receive an autographed picture of the star. Girls, if you come within the age limit and live in Indianapolis, send your name, age, and address in a letter or a card. Then you will be eligible to appear Saturday night before Miss Kane and the judges. LONDON, July 24.—The house of commons approved the second reading of the London naval treaty without a vote last night.

‘LOVE THIEF'IS IW ARREST Woman Accuses Suitor as Burglar of Hugs. Bu Unit'd Press . _ , MILWAUKEE. July 24. Carl Hohman's love for Olive Claussen has led him to a jail cell again. Miss Claussen first called Hohman a “love mirglar” in court in June, when she testified he broke open the door of her home and hugged her so tightly she screamed. A jury decided, after seven minutes deliberation, that it was no crime for Hohman to break into Miss Claussen’s home just to hug her. A burglary charge against him was dismissed. Early Wednesday. Miss Classen heard somebody creeping around in her house. She snapped on the light. Just as she though, it was Hohman. Police arrested him again. He confessed he went to Miss Claussen’s home because he “couldn’t get along without her.” Miss Claussen had him arraigned on the burglary charge a second time with the idea that perhaps another jury will decide “two love burglaries” do constitute a crime.
