July 24.—Plans of the four big packing companies to add four more bizzarrely colored retail stores to the neighborhood business district where already half a dozen chain stores may be operating, today had gained the support of the federal farm bureau. The board's tacit approval of the pikers’ plea for modification of the 1920 consent decree which bar them from retail distribution of meats, be- . came known today. July 24.—The endurance monoplane Greater St. Louis, piloted by Forest O'Brine and Dale Jackson, continued to grind away the hours above Lambert municipal living field today. Paying little attention to a light ram which fell at dawn, the former holders of the refueling sustained flight record, passed their seventysecond hour in the air at 7:11 this morning. TRIES SHOTGUN SUICIDE William McConnell Probably Will Die of Bullet Wounds. Telling a neighbor woman he was going hunting. William McConnell. 65. of 2717 Jackson street, walked into a barn on the rear of his premises early today and fired a twelve-gauge shotgun Into his chest near the heart. Physicians at city hospital say his condition is critical and that he probably will die. The neighbor, Mrs. Agnes Robertson, 2715 Jackson street, heard the shot and notified police. Spivak, MacPadden publications writer, told the congressional commute investigating Communism here of the evidence he gathered to indicate that the famous letters purporting to involve the Amtorg Trading Corporation in Communist activities were forged. He testified that they were offered lor sale to a press association through a man in Washington, six weeks before Grover Whalen, then New York police commissioner, made them public. Roy Hendrickson. 22. shot his 17-year-old sweetheart in the head today as part of a suicide pact and surrendered to the sheriff's office. Hendrickson said he lost his nerve after murdering Sylvia Hull at a secluded spot near Columbia Gardens. where the couple had attended a dance Wednesday night.
