HOOVER HOLDS CONFERENCE ON HUSTON JCTION Attempts to Find Chairman Futile; Resignation Is | Still in Doubt. Bo I fr .. WASHINGTON July 23.—Three of President Hoover's closest political advisers coni erred with him at the White ioust today regarding the status of Chairman Claudius Huston of the Republican national committee, whose time limit for promised action regarding his retirement fast is expiring. The three associates of the President, James Burke, counsel of the committee; James R. Nutt, treasurer, and Walter Hope, assistant aecre'ary of treasury, left the executive offices oy a side door and declined to discus’; their visit. Goodrich Makes Search Meanwhile. Huston's whereabouts continued to be something of a mystery. At the White House it was said he was understood to be in town and it was inferred he had been located here by former Governor Goodrich of Indiana, who was sent out Tuesday night to look for him. At Huston’s office, however, his secretary announced he was out of town and had not been heard Jrom for several days. Neither at the White House nor national committee headquarters could any assurances be given that the expected call for the committee to receive Huston’s promised resignation would go out today. Baird Is Indorsed Fresh from their victory in barring Chairman George Moses of the Republican senatorial campaign committee from participation in campaign work west of the Mississippi, many of the so-called ‘ Young Turk” group in the senate have conferred with Mr, Hoover at various times during the last twelve hours. Senator Vandenburg < Rep . Mich.) is understood to have indorsed Senator David H. Baird of New Jersey for the chairmanship after Huston retires. Baird and his colleague, Senator Kean <Rep„ N. J.) called to Introduce George Kcim, retired banker, Edgewater Park, N. J., and indorse him for secretaryship of the national committee, a post made vacant several months ago by the retirement of Representative Franklin Fort i Rep.. N. J).
