Separation of the Indiana State School for the Blind from the state board of industrial aid for the blind and the placing of the school under supervision of the state board of education will be sought in the 1931 legislature by the Indiana Association of Workers for the Blind. Eleventh bi-ennial convention of the association of workers for the blind closed Tuesday, after an attempt had been made to expel three members, two of whom are state employes, for alleged opposition to the pension bill which the blind asked in the 1929 legislature. The three were said to be Charles P. Hansen, Paul Breeding and Milton Saxton, all of Indianapolis. The latter two are employed by the Industrial School for the Blind. The expulsion resolution failed after a spirited debate.

‘Bv Thomson & McKinnon) NEW YORK. July 2.—Busness as indicated by the customary midweek statistics suggests no change of course from that it has followed the past few weeks. In some instances the facts disclosed are encouraging, in others the reverse. Undoubtedly announcement that the United States Steel Corporation had reduced operations contributed almost wholly to the sudden reversal of the upward trend of the stock market Tuesday. We feel this slackening is largely seasonal and due to the approach of a holiday. In justification of this, we have only to compare with the activity of the steel Industry of 1928 to find we are little, if any below the rate of operations for that year, which was in no sense described as bad. Present operations are well in line with average years and compare unpleasantly only with the abnormal operations of 1929. In centering our attention so much upon business activity at the moment, are we losing sight entirely of the fact that industry the first of this month has poured into the hands of investors something approximating one billion dollars in its disbursements of interest and dividends. May not a good share of this money be finding its way into the stock market? We feel a substantial buying power underlies all good investment stocks, particularly on the breaks.

WHEAT CLOSES UPWARD AFTER OPENINGSALES Independent Strength Is Shown by Corn Firms Up All Grain Options. Bv United Press CHICAGO, July 2—Decided strength in corn and firmness at Winnipeg, despite the lower Liverpool close, gave wheat a good advance on the Board of Trade today and prices closed slightly higher in an active market. Trade was rather nervous and lower early on disappointing cables and discouraging foreign news, but recovered well. Corn showed Independent strength and stubborn resistance to pressure throughout the session with shorts good buyers. Oats followed the major grains in a norrawer range. At the close wheat was to ’* cent higher; com was 7* to 1?* cents higher, and oats was 76 to ’i cent higher. Provisions were steady. Eatsing steadily during the late trading, Liverpool closed 76 to % cent lower. The private experts estimated the winter wheat crop at considerably more than the government’s June figures and the Canadian production at 80,000,000 bushels more than a year ago. To a certain extent this had been expected. Cash prices were unchanged. Receipts were seven cars. July corn was off a fraction at mid-session on selling by locals believed to be liquidation, but the deferred deliveries were steadied, though they, too, were off fractionally. The private experts' estimates included a much larger crop than last year, which was a very lean season. This was expected. Cash prices were unchanged. Receipts were 66 cars.
