USE OF ICE KEEPS MOISTURE IN FOOD
Importance of Preserving Edibles Properly Is Shown by Firm. Proper preservation of foods and food products, especially in summer months, is of vital importance in the health of a family. Anythii g that will keep the food supply wholesomely cold and provide the means of preserving its flavor and healthfulness is a decidedly worth while investment, according to officials of the Artificial Ice and Cold Storage Company. Company officials maintain that the ice is superior to other types of refrigeration, not only keeping foods from being contaminated, but affording that degree of moisture absolutely essential to palatability, the proper vitamin content of various foods being maintained only when the proper amount of moisure is kept.
Keeping Auto Radiator Clean Protects Motor
Many Costly Repair Bills Occasioned by Clogged Cooling Systems. Many an expensive repair bill has been avoided by having an automobile motor’s cooling system cleaned in time, according to Vern Reed, president of Reed-Mueller, Inc., auto radiator specialists, 111-119 Kentucky avenue. Proper circulation of water in an automobile engine not only prevents motorills, but increases life of the motor, Reed said. The average radiator taken from a pleasure car or truck is only 40 po 60 per cent efficient as to water flow compared to anew radiator. Tubes Become Closed This results from accumulation of grease, scale and particles of rubber hose in the cooling system, and, if permitted to remain, does not give the metal in the radiator a chance to cool the water, causing overheating, frequently with disastrous results to the motor. Grease grows inside a radiator and has a tendency to pick up anything like 4 limescale and particles of rubber hose. and in time will close the tubes of waterways completely. Cure Is Guaranteed This eventually results in deteriorating the zinc to such an extent that the radiator becomes porous and the core is beyond repair. Reed-Mueller, Inc., has developed an extremely efficient method of cleaning radiators thoroughly without damage. With this system, the cooling system may be cleaned in a short time without removing the radiator from the car. It is a guaranteed cure for overheating motors. In addition to general radiator repairs, the company carries a complete stock of radiators and cores for every make of automobile.

In co-operation with other companies, the Artificial Ice and Cold Storage Company, through the Ice Research Bureau, is seeking to acquaint the public with the wholesomeness of ice as a refrigerant and to establish the proper relations between refrigeration and food products. The company has developed its delivery system and equipment to a point where it is in position to provide prompt and efficient service on short notice. For the benefit of its patrons, it maintains a number- of service stations in outlying districts of the city. • The firm also owns and operates the Commercial Fuel Company, handling the best grades of coal and coke at reasonable prices. Officials of the company announce that with summer prices now prevailing, coal consumers can effect considerable savings by filling their bins for the winter while summer prices still prevail.
FREIGHT TRAIN UN TIME DAILY 1 Overnight Cleveland Route Giving Service. \ The record of operating the Indianapolis - Cleveland overnight freight train on time every day during the month of May except one, has given local officials of the Union Traction Company of Indiana much satisfaction, according to Gaven Stuart, agent for the coippany at the Kentucky avenue freight house. This record is not anew one but really is a continuation of the record made in April, according to Stuart, who reports that the tonnage on the newly inaugurated overnight freight service between Indianapolis and Cleveland via the Union Traction and connecting electric -ailways is proving decidedly popular with Indianapolis shippers and receivers of freight. Besides the through overnight backagecar service between Indianapolis and Cleveland, the popularity of the overnight freight service between Indianapolis and Detroit, Toledo, South Bend, Jackson, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and other southern Michigan points via the Union Traction lines also continues to grow in popularity, according to Stuart, freight at times being so heavy as to tax the facilities of the company for handling it. Stuart asserts that, although the Muncie-Winchester-Union City line and the Anderson-Middletown line of the company have been discontinued so far as rail operations are concerned, the company continues to furnish freight service on through rates in connection with truck lines, and information concerning this or any other service will gladly be given any one who cares to call at the Union Traction Kentucky .avenue freight house. Business at the freight depot of the Union Traction Company located in the Industrial Center at Nineteenth street and Martindale avenue, known as the North Side freight station, continues to grow steadily, as this station is proving itself a very convenient shipping and receiving point for freight among firms in the north and northeast section of the city. FIRE INSURANCE COST IS CUT BY SPRINKLER USE Automatic Device Allays Constant Threat of Serious Blaze. Frequently installation of automatic fire prevention equipment has prevented a firm from a fire loss that would have forced it out of business, according to R. H. Burdick, president of the Indiana Automatic Sprinkler Company, 702 East Market street. “Often the heaviest loss from fire can not be covered by any form of insurance,” he said. ‘‘Many firms have been ruined by loss of such irreplacable items as patterns, drawings, formulas, correspondence and other valuable records. “In addition to the actual loss to the plant, which may be covered with insurance, frequently with a high premium, the firm also may suffer heavily from loss of trade to competitors while its plant is being rebuilt and new equipment ordered. Savings Pay Cost "Wise owners of business houses and plants, recognizing this hazard, protect themselves by installing reliable automatic sprinkler devices. "These systems more than pay back in savings the cost of their installation. Insurance premiums are reduced 75 to 90 per cent.” The Indiana Automatic Sprinkler Company, since it was formed by Burdick in 1921, has installed automatic sprinklers' and other fire prevention equipment in many of the city’s leading industrial and commercial buildings. Spray Checks Blaze The sprinkler device consists of an overhead water pipe system, with numerous outlets, capped with patented heads that open when heat or flames come in contact with them. When these caps are melted, water under high pressure spurts out of the openings, making a smothering spray of water in the fire zone, checking the blaze before it has an opportunity tq develop into a disastrous conflagration.
METAL PLATING BUSINESS GOOD Unusual Volume of Orders Reported by Firm. Business depression reported by many firms has not affected the Adams Plating Company, 138 West Tenth street, according to Albert P. Kriese, production manager. The Adams company is enjoying its most prosperous year, Kriese said. He added that instead of the demand for automobile plating dropping off about the middle of May, it has continued in increasing volume this year. The company has completed alterations in its plant designed to provide added facilities for more prompt service and better work. In addition to rearrangement of equipment for greater efficiency, a new generator and other apparatus were mailed. Most of the firm’s business is chrome plating of automobile parts. In addition to this work, which is sufficient to keep the plant busy constantly, it has several large production lines for factories. Chrome plating, in addition to its beautiful appearance, is popular because of its enduring and tarnishresisting qualities. Most of the newer model automobiles are chrome plated by the manufacturers. Organized ten years ago by the the present owners, Thomas, Robert and Edward Adams, the company, through its policy of absolute satisfaction for every customer, has been built up from practically nothing to its present prosperous condition.
