' WHEAT CRASHES ON LOW CABLES AND CROP NEWS Lack of Confidence in Bull Side of Market Is Responsible. Bui nilfit Press CHICAGO, June 18 —A return of bear sentiment and general liquidation to the wheat market sent wheat and corn to new lows for the season again today on the Board of Trade. At the low point of the day wheat was around 4c off with local pressure very heavy, but recovered well. The weakness In the stock market was an important factor in the late drop. The decline failed to bring forth an active demand for cash grain and support was limited to shorts and holders of bids. Corn was down sharply and oats was lower with the major grains. At the close wheat was l~k cents lower, corn was " to 1 cent lower, and oats was ' 2 to cent lower. Provisions were 10 to 25 points lower. Continuing to work lower, Liverpool closed Its to I*4 cent off. Buenos Aires was 1 cent lower at mid-day. There were no reports of any export business early. Cash prices were 1 to 1% cent lower. Receipts were 11 cars. While July com showed strength during the morning, holding only a fractional loss at midsession, all other deliveries were relatively weak and dropped with wheat, being more than 1 cent down at the same time. Receipts were rather small and the cash demand good, but all bullish news was ignored as is usual in a bear market. There was not much action in the pit. Cash prices were 4 cent lower. Receipts were eightyfour cars. Oats declined nearly 1 cent in sympathy with the weakness in the j major grains during the morning : and there was no cash demand apparent. Little news of any kind was reported. Cash prices were 4 cent lower. Receipts were sixteen cars, i Chicago Grain Table —June 18WHEAT— Prev. Open. High. Low. Close, close. (By Thomson k McKinnon) NEW YORK, June 18.—Little comfort may be gained from current business reports. Midweek trade figures reveal a further downward drift. Car loadings are running well be’ow a year ago. The steel industry is operating under the 70 per cent mark. And as yet there is nothing to indicate that the in commodity prices has been definitely arrested. Bearing all this in mind we can not help but feel that much of the present mental depression is the result of a tendency to compare our present business pace with the activity cf a year ago. Looking two years back, the picture makes a much less discouraging comparison. Foreign grumbling against our tariff act shows no abatement. Bearish sentiment toward the stock market is now as rampant as was the bullish view last summer. Apparently we have gone from one extreme to the other. The short side of the market has become very popular. Be believe that with all due allowance for the present unsatisfactory state of business, pessimistic sentiment is being carried too far. We believe further that the stock market has reached the point which suggests that we are over discounting both present and prospective unfavorable developments.

Word of the death of Percy Miller, 50, former Indianapolis resident. in Los Angeles, from injuries received when he was shot by a bandit Monday night, was received here Tuesday night by Oren S. Hack, former city corporation counsel. The bandit is near death in a Los Angeles hospital. Mrs. Hack is Mr. Miller’s sister, and Otto Miller, a. brother, of Indianapolis, also survives. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m.
