WHITEMAN OPENS IN BIG MOVIE TODAY “King of Jazz” With Famous Band and Many Well Known Stage Stars Get Underway at the Circle Theater. THE Paul Whiteman picture, “King of Jazz," which took one year and two million dollars to produce, opens today at the Circle theater. In this production, Whiteman brings his entire. Land to the musical screen. Besides supplying the musical background, the individual members are featured, including his famous Rhythm Boys. One of the most spectacular offerings in the picture is “The Song of the Dawn” number, featuring John Boles, the golden voice of the screen,’’ accompanied by a cowboy chorus. Boles rings one of the song hits of “King of Jazz.” The song, like the number itself, is entitled “The Song of the Dawn” and gives Boles full scope for his talent as a singing star, it is said. There are several other song hits, including “It Happened in Monterey,” “Happy Feet,’’ “The Bridal Beil,” “Bench in the Park” and George Gershwin's masterpiece, “Rhapsody in Blue.” There are many stars featured in "King of Jazz.” The cast includes Laura La Plante in two comedy skits, Jeanette Loft featured with Stanley Smith and John Boles in severai singing numbers, the Brox Sisters singing “Bench in the Park,” Nell O’Day and the Tommy Atkins Sextette, A1 Norman, the boy with the rubber legs; the Sisters B, the sensations of Berlin brought to America especially for this picture.

the attractive writer-heroine of “Young Man of Manhattan.” Miss Colbert establishes herself as one of Paramount’s most promising stars, it Is said. She recently finished “The Big Pond,” in which she played opposite Maurice Chevalier. Norman Foster, in real life the actor husband of Miss Colbert, is cast as Toby. Charles Ruggles is cast as the hilarious inebriate. Shorty Ross, newspaper sports writer and pal of Toby. Ginger Rogers, many times seen on the Publix circuit, was chosen to portray Puff Randolph.
