ARTILLERY WILL SHOW DEFENSES AGAINSTPLANES Mimic Air War Is Slated Sunday Night Over Memorial Plaza. While a flight of national guard observation planes attacks the city at 8:45 Sunday night, Indianapolis will see what the United States army can offer in way of protection against air raids. With searchlights playing from War Memorial plaza, the Sixty-first coast artillery, anti-aircraft, en route from Ft. Monroe, Va„ to Ft. Sheridan, 111., will “defend” the city with machine guns and anti-air-craft artillery. The mock battle will be staged over objection of Methodist ministers, who Thursday adopted a resolution deploring the demonstration as "inconsistent with the spirit of the Sabbath.” At Roberts M. E. The resolution was drawn up and passed by the ministers at the third quarterly conference in Roberts Park M. E. church. • However, the hour of the sham battle was changed from 8 to 8:45 p. m. in order not to conflict with downtown church services. Five planes from the One hundred thirteenth observation squadron, only national guard air unit to fly night formations, will take off in formation from Stout field, Mars Hill, and soar over the plaza. Pilots Are Named Pilots will be Lieutenants D. D. Watson, Paul Zartman, Cecil F. Reynolds, Matt G. Carpenter and Harold Maxwell. Observers; Lieutenants D. D. Stowell, Wilbur Morgan, Ford Barrett, Russel Long and Russell Daniels. Mounted on War Memorial plaza, the coast artillery lights will seek out the “enemy” ships, and the guns attempt to drive them away. After the formation one plane will remain in the air maneuvering in efforts to dodge the beams from the lights. The coast artillery unit will arrive Saturday afternoon, from Seymour, and will be met at city limits by a detachment of motorcycle police, and escorted through downtown Indianapolis to Riverside park, where encampment will be made.
