about any of his assignments. Three months ago he came back to Hollywood, convinced that movie work was better than he previously had judged it to be. Films changed considerably in the period that he was away and the talkie element made his future slightly uncertain. Just to ijiow what he could do he took a part in a legitimate show playing in Hollywood. Irving Thalberg, production head at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, saw the play and apparently was overjoyed to see Mayo, a friend of the old motion picture days. To Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer went Mayo to make a test and from the test he emerged with a prize part in Buster Keaton’s new picture, “War Babies.” Mayo has decided that his days as a “collar ad” hero are over and he intends to devote himself to character parts, such as the one ho will have as the captain in Keaton’s picture. “Daddy longlegs” spiders are harmless in the house, because they do not touch human beings or food.

Bu United Urea BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, May 30.—Vice-President Abdon Saavedra of Bolivia, now in Buenos Aires, said Thursday night he plans to return to La Paz and take over his rightful office as head of the government, succeeding President Hernando Siles, resigned. The resignation of President Siles was seen as a maQguver to get himself re-elected. “Siles probably would perpetuate himself against the sentiment of the entire country,” Dr. Faavedra said. He said the people opposed Siles, who, he said, as president since 1926, had “done nothing but destroy Bolivia.” for the benefit of himself and his friends.
