DRY AGENTS TO WAR ON BOOZE i AT SPEEDWAY Beer Parties, Drinks From Flasks Will Lead to Arrests at Race. Hip flasks, kegs of beer and iced quarts in back seats of automobiles will be targets of dry enforcement' agencies at the Speedway Friday during the 500-mile auto classic. Federal, cdunty and city law heads today announced plans for thwarting various law violations, especially drinking. City police will exercise their power outside Speedway gates and 200 of them will direct traffic and watch for booze. Inside the speed arena, 700 military guards will be on duty in addition to eighteen deputy sheriffr, seven state police officers, ten federal prohibition agents and at least two secret service operatives. Watch for Booze Sheriff George L. Winkler today Informed his men to be on the lookout for pre-race booze shipments. On Speedway day. every road will be watched as carefully as the track, he said. •'lf we see any violations of the law. arrests will be made,” Winkler warned Police Chief Jerry Kinney said the police will watch bus, railway nd tract'on stations downtown, and the unloading terminal across from the Speedway entrance, to “enforce the prohibition law to the best of our ability.” Agents to Snoop Federal agents probably will follow their usual custom of wandering about the grounds pursuing riotous parties that develop in autos after a few miles of the race, a few hours of the sun and a few drinks. Police have been directed to aid officers who will arrive from Chicago, Detroit and other cities to seek wanted men. Kenney said police, working twelve-hour shifts Friday, have orders to arrest all known crooks and suspicious charactcrs. Those who are nabbed will be “on display” for out-of-town officers during roll call periods, he said. Firemen on Duty With use of the twelve-hour shift, nearly all police will be on the traffic squad to direct motorists on several different lanes. City hospital will have two ambulances at the track and there will be two private ambulances. City hospital doctors and internes and private physicians will comprise the hospital corps. One hundred and twenty city firemen. augmented by a force of twenty Speedway firemen, will be on hand. . , . Several special autos manned by Speedway police, will be stationed at vantage points on the grounds to answer trouble calls for race cars. BROAD RIPPLE WILL OPEN NEW SEASON Noted Amusement Park Makes Many Improvements for the Swimming Public in the Bathhouse This Summer. THE official opening of Broad Ripple park has been announced for Friday of this week according to an announcement from William F. Mahoney, manager of the park. Many new improvements have been made at the park this season with an expenditure of more than $50,000, the announcement states. Anew and thoroughly modem bathhouse representing the last word in sanitary equipment has just been completed. The building is finished in Spanish stucco and was designed by the Perkin’s Laboratories, swimming pool builders, of Omaha. New and wide steel lockers with individual keys are ready for the
season’s swimmers. Anew floor has been constructed and the most modern of shower baths have been installed. One of the features of this new bathhouse is the installation of electric hair dryers for the women’s section. The old street car loop at the park has been shortened and the space formerly used in being made ready for a beautiful scenic garden. The old canoe house at the west end of the swimming pool has been removed and this will be used for additional picnic grounds. King’s Rodeo and wild west show which showed at the Coliseum last week has moved to Broad Ripple park where it will show Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This novel attraction will be held in the ten-acre field at the east end of the swimming pool. n a BIG MOVIE DUE AT LYRIC THEATER While it is true that the chief study of mankind is man, it is also true that the chief topic of conversation of mankind is woman. This is said to be graphically illustrated in “Men Without Women,”

the all talking picture of the submarine service which comes to the Lyric for one week starting Saturday. Although there are no women In the entire cast, aside from a few extras in the brief opening sequences in Shanghai, the favorite theme of the ship’s crew is women —hundreds of ’em. In this detail, as in “The Iron Horse.” “Four Sons,” “Salute” and many other feature productions, Director John Ford has achieved what is reported to be an unusual degree of realism. Trapped in a crippled submarine ninety-five feet below the surface in the China sea—with water slowly entering through an inaccessible leak, and the torpedo tubes, the only avenue of escape, fouled by the force of the collision which sent the vessel to the bottom—these sailors are said to be real flesh-and-blood ftien—and their intimate reminiscences are thoroughly true to life. Kenneth Mac Kenna, Paul Page, Frank Albertson, Walter McGrail, Roy Stewart, J. Farrell MacDonald and Warren Hymer are in the east. Augmenting the feature picture

What many people call indigestion very often means excess acid in the stomach. The stomach nerves have been over-stimulated, and food sours. The corrective is an alkali, which neutralizes acids instantly. And the best alkali known to medical science is Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia. It has remained the standard with physicians in the 50 years since its invention. One spoonful of this harmless, tasteless alkali in water will neutralize instantly many times as
BISHOPS MAY POINT WAY TO UNITEDJIHURCH Proposals for One Large India Denomination to Be Studied. BY WALLACE CARROLL t United Press Staff Correspondent LONDON, May 28.—A test case, expected to point the way toward the ultimate reunion of all Christian sects, will come before the Lambeth conference of bishops here in July. About 300 bishops of the Anglican and Episcopal communion will consider a proposal to unite all Christian churches in southern India. The bishops will come from such far away places as the Solomon islands and Samoa. About 100 Episcopal bishops are expected from the United States. The proposed union of churches in southern India is the result of ten years’ consultation between the leaders of the different sects in that region. It embraces the church of India, Burma and Ceylon, commonly called the Church of England in India and the Church of England in Ceylon; the South India United church, consisting of the churches founded by British, American ar.d con inental European missions—either Presbyterian, Congregationalist, Reformed or Evangelical and the south India provincial synod of the Wesleyan Methodist. The basis of the proposed union is the common belief in Jesus Christ and the acceptance of the sacraments of baptism and holy communion. * Many English churchmen believe that if the Lambeth conference approves the proposed union it will stimulate the movement toward Christian unity throughout the world.
