’PACIFIC COAST DRY OFFICIALS AREJNDICTED Tumult Over G. 0. P. Plank of Modification in Washington Grows. 81/B 1/ United Press SEATTLE, Wash., May 27.—Repercussions of the tumult raised in state Republican ranks over the prohibition question were heard throughout Washington today with an indictment against three fede/al enforcement officials and the filing of a $50,000 libel suit. The three under Indictment are Rpy Lyle, prohibition administrator of the Pacific Northwest, and two of his subordinates —William Whitney, legal advisor, and Earl Corwin, field agent. Arrested Late Monday They were arrested late Monday when the grand jury, after investigating evidence of alleged bribery and corruption, returned the true bills. The libel action previously had been filed by Whitney against Ralph Horr, chairman of the King county delegation to the state Republican convention held at Bellingham Saturday. Whitney’s demand for damages vas based on a speech in which Horr had criticized enforcement methods employed by the field agent and the administration. Treats Libel Suit as Joke Horr, who. took a leading part in the convention fight which ended in the adoption of a party plank calling for modification of prohibition laws, treated the filing of the libel suit as “a mere joke.” In the course of the speech which provoked the suit, Horr denounced Whitney, and presented what was purported to be photostatic copies of bills of sale indicating that Whitney had bought boats, later seized while transporting liquor. Horr charged that Whitney had been kept in office through the influence of United States Senator Wesley Jones.
