Wrong Idea of Love Is Disastrous BY MARTHA LEE This eternal search for happiness leads us on some merry wild goose chases. We have a penchant for setting our eyes on an object that at a distance looks like happiness, only to find when we make the grade that it is the worst sort of makebelieve. And very often, on the road, we pass up the real thing because our eyes see nothing but our own personal and private conceptions of that thing called love, there's no telling them apart. A preconceived idea of love and what love should bring ruins many a marriage. These ideas play heck with a young wife who finally must be brought to the realization that all her married life is not going to be a continuous hcneymoon. And there never was a more misleading statement than the one about marriage making two into one. It can’t be done. Failings Are Betrayed There are disillusions to be met and overcome, whether we like the idea or not. Existence is not all we would like to have it. Nor are the people with whom we must live. Married folk should understand this before thev take the steo. Because the constant association with people who have taken on the roles of husband and wives is bound to betray failings and weaknesses and unexpected characteristics that tesr down preconceived ideas of how things should be, were things perfect. Dear Miss Lee—l am a man in my twenties, married and soon will be divorced. A (treat barrier arose between my wife and me which X could not forget, although I sincerely tried to put it aside. Things became so bad Anally we parted. Now most of the young people we used to chum with will not have anything to do with me. I cannot understand it. for I neither have said nor done anything to cause them to treat me this way. Recently I saw a school day sweetheart of mine. She still cares for me and X for her. She has been married and divorced and has a little boy. Do you think it would be wrong to revive that love we once knew and try to be happy together or do you think it best Just to be friends and forget the rest. H. M. W.
Do you feel yourself entirely justified in divorcing your wife? This barrier you speak of is nothing to the mental barrier your former wife will be in any future romance you should plan. Friends Side With Wife The fact that all your friends side with your wife looks rather bad for you. It would indicate that you had been unjust to her in some way. If you want to revive any romance, why net start reviving the romance and love for the woman you married? The school girl affair would ripen of its own accord if it were sincere. If you two are going to be in love you will be, no matter what I say or what you think. The fact that you ask if you should “try” to be happy together doesn't make the j affair look any too spontaneous. If; it’s happiness you want, better set j yourself right with your wife.
