BOTTLE NECK IS USED AS GUN IN THEFTOF TAXI Youth Admits Robbing Cab Driver; Negroes Held as Bandit Suspects. An 18-year-old boy captured early today In a taxicab he is alleged to have stolen after robbing the driver of SB, told police he perpetrated the robbery with a half-pint whisky bottle. He is Kenneth Smith. 940 North Hamilton avenue, charged with auto banditry. Smith said he rode from Massachusetts avenue and Michigan street to Sixty-first street and Ashland avenue where he pressed the bottle against the neck of Richard Tweddel, 23, of 1708 Ruckle street, United Cab Company driver. Caught With Cab Patrolmen Curtis Barge and Davis Curran caught Smith in the cab at Forty-sixth street and Winthrop avenue. Police today held Hillard Morris, 523 West Fourteenth street, and Rayford Scott, same address, both Negroes, on vagrancy charges, as suspects in robbery of a pharmacy operated by Blanche Bennet at 743 North West street. She is said to have identified them as bandits who held her up Wednesday night and took $9. Suspected Robbery Suspicion that three Negroes who got into his cab at 637 Indiana avenue Wednesday night intended to hold him up saved Carl Moulden, 710 North Illinois street, Checker Cab Company driver, his day’s receipts. While driving to Harding and Twenty-fifth streets he secreted paper money in his shoe and hid the change behind the cushion on the auto seat. When the Negroes got out of the cab they argued about the fare, and insulted him, Moulden told police. Moulden hit one of them, and the others beat him into unconsciousness and rifled his pockets, but obtained nothing. Seek Young Escaped Prisoners Aid in search for two boys who escaped from the Indiana Boys’ school at Plainfield Wednesday was asked today of Marion county and Indianapolis authorities. The boys are Charles Richardson, Anderson, and Walter Elliott, Ft. Wayne.
