Some-

time* they agree, and sometimes not. But in the case of Warner Baxter, they coincide perfectly, Baxter’s fine work on the screen has recently won recognition by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which has voted him the first award for the best screen performance during 1929—a tribute to his famous role in “In Old Arizona.” It is a signal honor for this expert actor, who created anew type of film hero in “In Old Arizona." The public and the experts are in agreement—and that makes it unanimous. Baxter comes to the screen oi the Lyric Saturday in another of his dashing, debonair roles in “The Arizona Kid,” a picture that is said to present as no other film has ever done, the glamor, romance, color bravery and spirit of the old west of pioneers and miners, of fighting men and loyal women, all set in the very heart of the scenic wonderland of Utah. In “The Arizona Kid” Warner Baxter again essays the alluring role of a gay, reckless bandit who captures hearts as he does everything else. His love affairs with a dance hall girl, played by Mona Maris, who was last seen as his leading lady in "Romance of the Rio Grande,” and a gambler’s wife, played by Carol

Lombard, formerly an Indiana girl whose home is in Ft. Wayne. Alfred Santell directed the picture from an original story by Ralph Block. The entire filming was done n ;ar Zion National park, in southwestern Utah. Four R-K-O vaudeville acts are featured on the stage. MU* CHEVALIER HAS NEW TYPE OF ROLE He was a Parisian singer in “Innocents of Paris.” He was a gallant romantic prince of hearts in “The Love Parade.” He was a roguish comedian in “Paramount on Parade.” And now, in his latest starring picture, “The Big Pond,” Maurice Chevalier plays the role of an impoverished French nobleman who comes to America and takes up a business career in a great big way. “The Big Pond” opens Friday at the Indiana. On the stage will be a Publix revue, “Tin Type Revue,” which is headed by Charlie Hill, guest master of ceremonies. There is said to be a reason for Chevalier’s frantic, ambitious business antics in “The Big Pond.” And the reason is Claudette Colbert, the daughter of the “chewing gum king.” Chevalier wants to prove to her

and her father that he can mix business with romance. And ne proves his point, although not as easily and quickly as he imagined. For in his desire to make money he temporarily forgets to remain the ardent lover, a fact which disappoints Claudette, and of course, pleases her father. The entire motive of this picture is said to be romantically gay with Chevalier and Claudette Colbert romping through one merry scene after the other with evident enthusiasm. The cast in the stage show will support Charlie Hill and the Charlie Davis band includes Lora Hoffman, the Lassiter Brothers, the Three

jlust how much does */ the amount of carbon in your engine depend upon the kind of oil you use? Here is a test that has surprised even experienced mechanics. To make this test we took an engine out of a car, placed it on blocks in the laboratory, and ran it under exactly the same conditions with various brands of lubricating oil, including New IsoVis. Each oil was given a 50-hour test. At the end of each 50-hour run, every bit of carbon was removed from

pistons and cylinders and accurately measured. New Iso-Vis not only deposited a minimum of carbon but this carbon was actually 50% less than the average carbon deposit of the better grade oils tested. But this is only one of the results of the special refining process by which this new type oil is made. It has a wider temperature range. It lubricates effectively at low temperatures and all the way up to temperatures far beyond the highest on your gauge. Moreover, New Iso-Vis is the only motor oil that will not thin out in your crankcase. Every motorist familiar with the diluted condition of motor oil after a few hundred miles in the crankcase will appreciate what this means. New Iso-Vis is actually as heavy and oily when you drain it off as when you first put it in. Any Standard Oil dealer or service station attendant will be glad to drain your crankcase, flush and refill with New Iso-Vis Motor Oil.
