CONCERT WILL BE GIVEN BY NEGRO TENOR Benefit Performance to Feature Numbers by Rising Musician. Leonard Franklin. Negro tenor, who has been aided in his musical education by public-spirited citizens of Indianapolis, will appear in concert Thursday night at Crispus Atturks high school. The concert, a benefit for Franklin, is being sponsored by the Y. M. C. A., where tickets are on sale. Tickets may be purchased at the h„jth school office, also. Among citizens who have purchased block of tickets are Leo M. Rappoport, Rabbi Milton Steinberg, Herman P. Lieber and the Portfolio Club, where he has sung. Mrs. Francis B. Ccston, head of the Educational Aid Society of the Negro group, first to aid Franklin’s academic training, is active in the sale of tickets for the benet affair. Pianist Will Assist Frankiin will be assisted by Harry Campbell, pianist, Butler university! graduate, who also is popular with radio fans. The program Thursday night will consist of both spirituals and operatic numbers and starts pt 815. Following the concert. Franklin will go to Boston to m-ke preparation for his studies at the New England Conservatory of Music this fall, according to his sponsors. Thirtieth anniversary of the Woman's Club will be celebrated with a dinner in Jordan Hall. Phyllis Wheatley Y. W. C. A., Friday night. Mrs. Elizabeth Herod is president. Mrs. E. C. Rumpler will speak. Others on the program include Mrs. Lillian J. Brown, president of the Central Association of Colored Women: Mrs. Carrie Crump, president of the State Federation of Colored Women, and Mrs. Julia Reed, president of Elizabeth Carter Council. The Woman's Club is the first organization to start charity work among Negroes and is maintaining a home on East Fourteenth street for unfortunate colored girls.
