FRANCE WILL PARADE FULL NAVAL STRENGTH Demonstration Off Algeria Stirs Criticism in Paris. Bn Unit ml Press PARIS, May 2—Criticism arose m certain Parisian quarters today of France's intention to hold her most formidable demonstration of naval strength since the World war. Objections to the grand fleet review and naval maneuvers off Algeria and in the Occidental Mediterranean were based chiefly on the possibility of Italian resentment. It was felt that to stage such a demonstration so soon after the Lon lon naval parley and so near the Its Jan coasts would arouse in Italians a feeling that France was attempting to flaunt her empire and naval strength. President Gaston Doumergue left Paris Thursday to review the combined fleets. $7,000 BELIEVED TAKEN part of Muncie Store Loot Missing After Man Breaks Jail. Hu United Press MUNCIE. SENATE VOTE PROMISED ON VETERANS' RILL Watson Denies Measure Will Be Sidetracked by Upper House. By Scripps-Howard Newspaper Allianee WASHINGTON, May 2.—The bill increasing benefits for World war veterans will not be sidetracked in the senate during the remainder of this session but will be fully debated and brought to a vote, Senator James E. Watson (Ind.) Republican leader, said today. Watson's announcement was in answer to reports that the measure, which recently passed the house, will be pigeon-holed until the next session. The bill probably will not be reported to the senate until the return next week of Senator David A. Reed <Pa.), chairman of the veterans’ subcommittee of the finance committee. Reed is on his way here from the London naval conference, where he was a delegate. To speed up consideration, however, the subcommittee has begun consideration. Director Hines of the veterans’ bureau, the first witness, testified Thursday that the measure will cost a minimum of $181,404,650 a year and a maximum of $404,759,989. It extends to 1930 the date for all soldiers and sailors to claim compensation on the grounds that their ailments were of service Origin. .... *U Another provision prohibits the government from refutting testimony to substantiate this presumption. The measure otherwise liberalizes the veterans and war risk insurance laws. Efforts will be made to amend the measure in the senate, it is expected to curtail cost.
