Federation Will Meet at Mancie Interest of delegates to the eighth annual conference of Indiana Federation of American Association of University Women will center upon the report of the state chairman of the national million-dollar fellowship fund. The conference will be held May 2 and 3 at the Hotel Roberts, Muncie. Dean Agnes E. Wells, Indiana university, will give the report, which Includes major activity for the year of practically every branch organization in an endeavor to meet their share of the quota of $30,000 assigned to Indiana. Fellowships Awarded Dean Wells will include in her report announcement of the Guggenheim fellowships awarded three members of the American Association of University Women: Miss Eleanor Boswell, former executive secretary of the A. A. U. W., who plans to use her fellowship to prepare a history of the English stage during the period of the restoration; Dr. Viola F. Barnes, associate professor of history, Mt. Holyoke college, who is to make a study in English archives of England's colonial policy, particularly in relation to Massachusetts, and Dr. Helen C. White, assistant professor of English. University of Wisconsin, who will study for mystical elements in English religious poetry of the seventeenth century. Aid College Students The report also points out that the A. A. U. W. in the United States has been a great factor in developing an interest in the undergraduate student, making it possible for hundreds of young girls to start or continue a college course by gift and loan scholarships. The interest of the association in this field of work has been so farreaching in its influence that now there are in the United States hundreds of other groups of women, not necessarily college graduates, who are interested in giving money to scholarship funds. Demand Is Increasing The national officers feel that a new field demands attention and interest. The demand for women who have had higher degrees is increasing when the higher degrees indicate efficient and outstanding .—nolarship on the part of tho women. This creates an urgent need for fellowship for women, which need the association is endeavoring to meet by the million-dollar fellowship fund. If the members of the organization become sufficiently interested and help in the educational process necessary to interest others who might contribute, within a few years it will be possible to aid many of our most brilliant young women to continue in fields of research.
