Camp Fire Girls
A group of Camp Fire Girls of woodgatherers' rank were conducted on a tour through the city hall recently. They were introduced to Mayor Reginald Sullivan and the heads of various departments and presidents of some of the boards. Tawasiya group of the Irvington M. E. church. Mrs. Francis Heagy, guardian, held their parents’ dinner in the social hall of the church. MTs. Charles Smith and the Rev. and Mrs. J. B. Rosemurgy were honor guests. The girls cooked and served a three-course dinner Orange was the color scheme in the program, candles and flowers on the table. Three-minute talks on Camp Fire were given as follows: "Ideals and Purpose of Camp Fire," Mrs. Heagy: "Credo." Margaret Heagy': "Membership Requirements.” Flossie May Nolan; "Crafts, Honors and Ranks." Anna Marie Pressel: "Woodgatherers Rank," Marian Barnes; "Firemaker's Rank.” Miriam Staley; “Torchbearers Rank,’’ Marjorie Allen. Marjorie Weaver was elected vice-president of the Cakenseho group of School 62. The group worked on the firelighting ceremony. Mrs. Francis Heagy met with the group in the absence of their guardian. Mrs. Tnelma Williams. Guardian’s training course met Wednesda- morning at Christ hureh. Miss Ethelmae Miller taught handcraft and Mrs. Hylton Fberhard taught several Camp Fire songs. The next meeting will be April 16 at Christ church. This meeting will be a ceremonial. Bhutan, governing body of the Cvmp Fire Girls, will have a meeting April 18 at 2 p. m. This will be a party held at Brookside shelter hou.*e. Each girl is to bring 10 cents. All groups are asked to end representatives. Indiana chapter regents have been requested by Mrs. Alton C. Reeves, state chairman of better 51ms, to appoint chairmen and to report the names and address of these chairmen. Only bv appointment of chairmen will chapters receive the lists and information sent out regularly by the national committee. Mrs. E. T. Taylor and Mrs. Rose Ford, two charter members of the Huntington chapter, entertained members with a 1 o'clock luncheon at the Hotel La Fontaine Saturday in honor of Mrs. John McFadden, Gary, director of the northern district of the state organization. Miss Mary Emily Faimtleroy. organizing regent of the New Harmony chapter, has presented the chapter with a room with furnishings in the Revolutionary period, in the old community building No. 2. The room is to be used as the permanent home of the chapter. The presentation was made as a birthday gift at a party given by Miss Fauntleroy in observance of the k chapter's sixteenth birthday.

Writers for Clubs Will Study News First meeting of a class In publicity for club women will be held at the Y. W. C. A. Tuesday afternoon and will take the form of an informal discussion, followed by a Mrs. Hugh H. Hannah and Mrs. Florence Webster Long, woman’s page editor of the News, will talk on “What Publicity in Your Club Is.” Other publicity directors have been invited to lead the discussions. Mrs. Hoover Director Mrs. Donald D. Hoover is director of the practical class lessons, which will be alternated with talks by city editors and society editors from Indianapolis newspapers. At the second lesson Wayne Guthrie, city editor of the News, will give a “Straight Talk by a City Editor:” third lesson will be practical instruction in news writing; fourth lesson, ‘Straight Talk by a Society Editor,” Mrs. Dorothy Collins of the Star; fifth week, year book makeup; sixth week, “A Society Editor Lets You Eavesdrop,” Josephine Doran, Hammond, Indianapolis Times; seventh week, practical news story writing; eighth week, open forum with editors and class. First Session Thursday The class is open to all club women who have the handling of publicity for their clubs and is designed to assist them in putting the work of their organizations before the public. Mrs. E. Blake Francis, commissioner of the Indianapolis and Marion county Girl Scouts, will talk at 3:15 p. m. April 15, over the local station WFBM. on the Girl Scout National Convention which will be held in Indianapolis this fall, and also abouc Camp Dellwood, local Girl Scout camp. New candidates who have been reported during the past week are: Alice Brayfitts, Jean Daniels, Mary Catherine Ellis, Troop 1; Betty Gettins, Troop 22: Sara Bell and Evelyn Fausey, Nina Britain, Mary Dean Eisman, Helen Stall. Mildred Young, Bonnie Jones, Ruth Keller, Troop 32: Hazel and Eleanor Wolfe, Troop 38; Rosalie Leveson. Billy Lawrence, Vira Meredith, Troop 46. Mexican "reciprocal gift,” to the children of Indiana has been received. It is a cabinet containing an interesting exhibit characteristic of Mexico. It will be on display at the Children’s Museum, 1150 North Meridian street, April 8 to 12. The ceremony of reception will take place at the museum on Thursday, at 3:30 p. m. Governor Harry G. Leslie has been invited to participate. Betty Leech of Troop 46 has been appointed as a patrol leader. Girl Scout Cookie day has been set for Saturday. May 3. Janet Ernst, Thelma Martin, and Vancie Ciampitt of Troop 12 all passed their work on first class hiking. They held an overnight hike for thirty girls at Camp Dellwood. Mrs. Mabel Fouty and several of the girls mothers chaperoned the group. This troop has started having its meetings at the Speedway Methodist Episcopal church on Fridays. New leaders training class will start April 23 at the Girl Scout headquarters. 512 Board of Trade building. This is to be the last leaders class conducted this year. Carolyn Bok and Dorothy Durhams, patrols of Troop 43 went on a hike to Camp Dellwood last week. Helen Whitfield and her patrol went on a marshmallow roast last Monday evening. The Woman’s Business and Professional Club want Girl Scouts, who will take the places of pages and ushers at the state convention, to be held May 10, 11, and 12, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. There will be four Girl Scouts on duty at a time, in uniform. Those interested are asked to call Miss Foxworthy at the Girl Scout headquarters and sign up by the middle of April. The hours are from 12 to 10:00 p. m. Saturday: from 8:00 a. m. to 10:00 p. m. on Sunday and Monday from 8:00 a. m. to 10:00 p. m. Miss Eleanor Ferris, captain of Troop 33 and her troop took a hike Saturday. Blue cards for the court of awards will be due the second week in May. Two new’ patrols have been organized in Troop 46 with Mary Helen King and Marjory Goldberg chosen at the new patrol leaders. Troop 3 went to Camp Dellwood last week during spring vacation and the girls worked on passing tests. Troop 1 has started keen competition in patrols for the one that sells the most Girl Seoul cookies. The patrol leaders are Kitty Lou Fitzgerald. Margaret Stump. Virginia McGlasson. and Jean L. Smith. Girls who have been invested during the past week are: Alice Kautsky, Troop 13: Marjorie and Dorothy Allen. Troop 30; Dorothy Plumely, Troop 46; Dorothy Rybolt, Troop 22. Anew Troop 32 has been started at the Third Christian church Seventeenth and Broadway. Miss Caroline Wagner is the captain. Troop meets every Friday at 3:30 p. m. Troop 36 sewed on the curtains for the basement of the church in which they have their meetings. Girls working on these will pass some of their Scout work.

The Junior Council will meet 7” ~sday, at the Catholic community center, at which time additional plans for the hope chest, May meeting and finance committee will be discussed. An Easter treasure hunt featured the meeting of Troop 6 Saturday afternoon at the home of Miss Ellen Irene Kroger, 3422 Brookside parkway. Members of the troop worked on tests preceding the treasure hunt which was conducted through Brookside park. Juniors of the local troops are working intensively on their tests preparatory to the May meeting when honor pins will be awarded. Before receiving the pins all Juniors must pass the tests which embody the Junior motto, "Be Careful” and* the Junior standards. “To Love God; to serve others; to live nobly.” The same tests will be given Juniors throughout the country. Club Group Will Close 1930 Work Community welfare department, Woman's Department Club, will close its activities for the year with a meeting Wednesday at 2 at the clubhouse.
