175 CANDIDATES DROP RACE FOR PRIMARY VOTES Campaign Gets Under Way as Withdrawal Period Deadline Is Reached. Report was made today by the off's of the Marion county clerk and hie secretary of state that 175 candidates in the May primary for county posts and the state legislature and precinct committeemen had withdrawn from the race by midnight Thursday, the deadline on withdrawals. Republican candidates for impor- j rant posts who withdrew are Wil- : iiam Anderson, candidate for j sheriff; Arthur M. Dins more, for prosecutor; J. Elwood Jones, state; representative; Scott Gehring, coun- I ty commissioner First district ; Morris | D. Moss, county assessor: Charles O. Harris and Alonzo Jeffers, for county treasurer; William A. Boyce. Jr., for recorder, and Charles D. Rogers, council man Second district. Flanders Disqualified Democratic candidates withdrawing Included: Howard D. Bates for Judge of superior court five; Woodbum Masson, superior court three; John Rod wick, Wilfred Bradshaw, Will A Mason and Frederick S. Steiger, state representative; Joseph J Speaks, coroner; Humphrey C. Harrington, treasurer; Thomas D. Walsh, county clerk; and Charles S. Maxwell, councilman. First district. George O. Hutsell, county clerk, declared William H. Flanders,; Democratic candidate for county commissioner, disqualified because he failed to file a notice of candidacy, although he signed the candidate's record book. Out In Township Race One hundred twenty Republican candidates for precinct committee- j men withdrew; as did twenty-two Democrats. Three Democratic candidates for township offices also withdrew. McBride, who originated the theater ticket brokerage system, is dead at the age of 84. Death was due to pneumonia.
