BUSINESS MEN HEAR ADDRESS ON ADVERTISING Scripps-Howard Executive Outlines New Methods of Merchandising. Addressing business leaders and department store officials here today, James G. Lewis, executive of the advertising department of Scripps-Howard newspapers, outlined merchandising and advertising methods in use throughout the United States. Lewis is delivering talks in the twenty-five cities having ScrippsHoward newspapers, with a national daily circulation of more than 2,000,000. Speaks Before Women Executives of L. S. Ayres & Cos. were addressed by Lewis this morning and at noon he spoke before women's and men's wear executives and jewelers at the Linroln. Monday afternoon he spoke to offir als of Tire Times and Monday night he spoke before William H. •lock Company officials. Lewis’ schedule includes addresses Wednesday before representatives of the Pettis Dry Goods Company at the store and before representatives and distributors of national products Auto Dealers Included At noon Thursday Lewis will address auto dealers at the Lincoln, and Thursday night executives of the Fair store. Goldstein's, L. Strauss, Sears-Roebuck and Selig's at the Lincoln. Lewis, in his addresses, includes not only an outline of the history and growth of the Scripps-Howard publications, but also facte and information on trends of advertising and sales methods as practiced in the country. GAS COMPANY PLANT WINS SAFETY AWARD Turns In No-Accident Record of • 458,2.17 Working Hours. Prospect street plant, of the Citizens Gas Company today held the award as wanner of the. six months’ safety contest held in twenty-five industrial plants under sponsorship of the Indianapolis Safety Council. The award was made Monday at the Chamber of Commerce. Results of the contest showed the plant had a total of 458.237 working hours without accident. The Langsdale plant of the company had a noaccident record, but not as many working hours. nondcuffed in Sleep TO/ rpltcd Prr s* WARSAW, Ind., April B—Handcuffs were slipped on the wrists of Halford Johnson, 36, as he lay asleep at the home of an uncle, Abraham Johnson, in Monroe township, by Sheriff Long of Wayne county. The sheriff left with his prisoner for the return trip to Richmond. where he will face a charge of robbery. Johnson escaped a week ago.
