DAVIS SENATE RACE WILL BE ON DRY BASIS Labor Secretary Will Not Spend Much Money to Gain Office. BY JOSEPH H. BAIRD * L'nited Preta Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON, March 19.—Secretary of Labor Davis will seek the Republican nominal ton for United States senator from Pennsylvania as a dry, a protectionist, and on the record of eight years’ service in the cabinet, it was learned today. Although formal announcement of the Davis platform will no* coi.ie until early in April, it is learned reliably these three planks will be incorporated. It is further learned that Davis plans no large outlay of money in the campaign and will depend largely on the good will offices of city and county political leaders to present his appeal to the voters. Regarding his tenure in the President's cabinet Davis says he has no intention of resigning during his primary campaign. Views Are Unchanged He regarded the present business and unemployment situation as demanding constant attention. Hence, he plans to spend very little time away from Washington. Davis, during his cabinet term has said nothing regarding prohibition It is known, however, he was identified actively with the temperance movement before entering public life and that his views have not been changed since. Further, it is pointed out here, Davis expects support from the American Federation of Labor in Pennsylvania, and that organization never has come out for anything stronger than beer. Cost Is Too Great The secretary of labor will avoid a battle of doilars. First, it is learned, he is unable to afford a large campaign outlay. It is estimated it would cost him $83,000 to cover each voting district with watchers, and considerably more to appeal by letter to all Republicans of the state. He plans to call for volunteer watchers and direct his plea to the voters through public speeches and the newspapers. Second, Davis is said to have no desire to hold an “empty scepter.*’ With the example of William S. Vare before him. he will not spend large sums which might result In opposition to his taking his seat, if elected. Works With Ticket In lieu of an expensive campaign machine, informed sources say, Davis plans to work in close co-opera-tion with the other candidates on his ticket, speaking for them as well as for himself, and receiving the same courtesy. The Davis appeal to Pennsylvania voters will center around his service as secretary of labor, it is learned. He now is working intensively to clear up the present unemployment situation. With this accomplished, it is said here, he will have a good basis of appeal to wage earners. Regarding Davis’ future days in the labor post, the White House is maintaining silence in the face of constant questioning. Some time ago a spokesman for Mr. Hoover said Davis might remain as long as he wished. Push Cart Jams Traffic EVANSVILLE. Ind., March 19. Val Shode, 56, with only a push cart, held up traffic on Main street here. Police arrested him on a charge of being drunk.

The Europa. sister ship of the Bremen, new speed queen of the Atlantic, sailed today from Bremen on her maiden voyage to New York. Five thousand cheering Germans gathered a tthe pier and shouted “hoch” as the stately ship pointed down the mouth of the Weser to the North sea. The band played “Deutschland Über Alles.” The great steamer, proud and shining and streamlined into the breeze, throbbed with the beat of her powerful engines that may prove to be the fastest passenger liner on the Atlantic. PARKING BAN IS SUGGESTED Morris Favors Plan; Meurer Heard by Board. Indianapolis ultimately will solve its traffic problem by abolishing parking in the congested area in the opinion of Donald S. Morris, safety board member. Norris declared he favored prohibition of parking in the downtown area, but indicated Tuesday that no steps will be taken to bring about such a rule at this time. F. Meurer. former councilman who is pushing a case to test validity of the city traffic code which permits establishment of noparking zones in front of business houses, presented his arguments to the board Tuesday. Norris contended that creation of no-parking areas downtown was dedicating the street to public use rather than private, declaring that use of streets for parking is “appropriation for private use.” HELD AFTER CRASH Motorist Is Charged With Reckless Driving. DRINK WATER TO HELP WASH OUT KIDNEY POISON If Your Back Hurts or Bladder Bothers You, Begin Taking Salts. When your kidneys hurt and your back feels sore, don’t get scared and proceed to load your stomach with a lot of drugs that excite the kidneys and irritate the entire urinary tract. Keep your kidneys clean like you keep your bowels clean, by flushing them wdth a mild, harmless salts which helps to remove the body’s urinous waste and stimulate them to their normal activity. The function of the kidneys is to filter the blood. In 24 hours they strain from it 500 grains of acid and waste, so we can readily understand the vital importance of keeping the kidneys active. Drink lots of good water—you can’t drink too much; also get from any pharmacist about four ounces of Jad Salts. Take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast each morning for a few days and your kidneys may then act fine. This famous salts is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia, and has been used for years to help clean and stimulate clogged kidneys; also to neutralize the acids in the system so they are no longer a source of irritation, thus often relieving bladder weakness. Jad Salts is inexpensive; cannot injure; makes a delightful effervescent lithia-water drink which everyone should take now and then to help keep their kidneys clean and active. Try this; also keep up the water drinking, and no doubt you will wonder what became of your kidney trouble and backache.—Advertisement.
