DEATH PLUNGE OF PARLEY AID CALLED MISHAP Roommate of Victim Weeps at Inquest, Describing Tragedy. Hu Unit'd I'r. .* LONDON, March 7.—A coroner's ourt, sitting at Westminster, today declared the death of Mrs. Pearl Demaret, secretary to Henry L. Stimson, due to accident. Mrs. Demaret, attached to the American delegation, died in a iorty-foot fall from her window in the Mayfair ho f el, on the eve of her intended return to America. Miss Hurley Fi.ske. Mrs. Demaret’s icmmate. wept in the witness box • .. she described events of the evening before the tragedy. Since Mrs Demaret’s arrival in England, she said, the American girl had been very homesick. She diswked the climate and food, and .'.as extremely cheerful at the prospect of sailing for the United States on the President Harding. Mrs. Demaret luggage already iiad been sent to the ship at Southampton. In accordance with instructions received from Mrs. Demaret’s husband in Washington, her body will be cremated and the ashes will be *nt home next week. Comrades of the Civil war. both in the same company, who had not seen each other since the war, met in a singular manner on a street here. When the war started George Avey, 90. and Isaac Revilee. 84, were boys in Butler county, Ohio. They enlisted in the Eighty-third Ohio regiment of infantry and went forth to war. Avey was then 23 and Reville was 18. Both are now residents here. In passing on the street each noticed the G. A. R. button in the lapel of the other’s coat. They conversed and learned they had been in the same regiment and recognized each other. “Well,” said Avey, ”1 can’t ask you to come to a saloon and have a drink. Old man Volstead put a stop to that sort of business, but we might smoke a cigar." ARSON CASE ON TRIAL Delphi Man in Court at Columbus Accused of House and Barn Fire. Ru Timex Special COLUMBUS, Ind., March 7. Abraham Grider, Delphi, formerly of Bartholomew county, is on trial in circuit court here charged with arson in connection with burning of his home and a barn in Harrison township. Samuel Shaw and Frank Redman, also of Bartholomew county. who are serving terms in the Indiana slate prison after pleading guilty to arson, have been brought here fts witnesses for the state. Grider was indicted jointly with Shaw and Redman last spring on a charge of arson, but later the case was dismissed and another one of arson directed solely at him was filed. He was tried in June on a charge of perjury in connection with some insurance policies, but was acquitted. Woman Doctor Dies Hu 1 im. s Special SOUTH BEND. Ind.. March 7. Funeral services were held today for Dr Mary Owen, 57, wife of Dr. W. L. Owen. She had practiced medicine here twenty-five years. Besides her husband, she leaves a son. Dr. Douglass Owen.
