BY PAUL R- MALLON United Pre* Stag Correspondent WASHINGTON, March 7.—A summons to dry women of the country to rally around the table of the house judiciary committee here next week Jn defense of prohibition, was issued today. Next Wednesday and Thursday will be ladies days" in the prohibition hearings, dry leaders announced. The idea being to put j "pepper and ginger’’ into the dry 1 presentation. Leaders of the W. C. T. U. from the various states, welfare workers ! and professional women are among 1 those being called. Their names j will be divulged Monday by Dr • Edwin C. Dinwiddie, local prohibi- i tionist. Among those promised are Commander Evangeline Booth of the Salvation Army, Miss Cora Lane Wilson, founder of the "moonlight school,” and Mrs. Nellie Burger, president of the Missouri W. C. T. U. Commander Booth will present a survey she made for the Wickersham law enforcement commission which describes conditions among the men who are being handled by the Salvation Army. The commission has not made it public. Men have held the floor in the first two days of the dry defense, which recessed late Thursday until next Wednesday. Only one woman has appeared, Mrs. Ruth W. K. Strawbridge, Philadelphia society matron who conducted a secret poll of the social register which showed, she said, a majority of 1,337 to 247 in favor of abolishmg liquor from tire best tables. Yards of statistics have been cited to dispute the claim of the wets that prohibition failed to bring economy, promote health and diminish drinking. I. U.
