VANDALISM MAY FORCE U, S. TO ACTION IN CUBA Machado Opposition Ready to Burn Cane Fields, Says Gotham Paper. Bb Unit'd l*rfa* NEW YORK. March 6 -The New York Telegram .said today it had learned from members of political factions exiled under the Machado regime that Cuban cane fields will be burned and property of all descriptions may be destroyed to force American intervention. A conference was held here Wednesday night, the Telegram said, at which it was decided to hold the proposed program of vandalism until the matter of a public hearing, now before the senate foreign relations committee, is decided. “The lives of thousands of Cubans hang in the balance,” the Telegram quoted Octavia Seigle, one of the persons who attended the conference, as saying “If they rise in armed resistance now. many of them will be slaughtered by the niachim guns of Machado s army. “The only recourse, then, is vandrtli: m and Cuba is ready to resort to it. We have hopes in Senator Borah'.-* promise to conduct a hearing We fear that, before this action comes those in Cuba, suffering in silence in the tear of assassination, loss of property and sepaiation from their families, will break ail restraint and follow the course of destruction decided upon." Proud Mother!
Little Thelma Carter, 1950 Park avenue. Indianapolis, is the picture of health. No wonder her mother says. “I'm proud as can be of my little girl. She's always bright, active, robust. “I give California Pig Syrup a lot of credit for her wonderful condition. I have used it with her for every little upset or cold. It always has her back to normal in a few hours.” When a child shows, by bad breath, coated tongue, biliousness or feverishness, that the little bowels are clogged, you know the system needs a prompt cleansing. California Fig Syrup does the work quickly and gently. In addition. it helps tone and strengthen weak bowels and stomach. So it gives lasting help. The word California marks the genuine; the pure vegetable product loved by children and pronounced safe and effective by doctors.—Advertisement.

Wethern, department of commerce airways division inspector, conducted the test. Probe Secrecy Upheld WASHINGTON, March 6.—Attor-ney-GeneraLMitchell has upheld the aeronautics oranch of the commerce department in its contention that the law dees not require it to make public its reports on each individual airplane crash. Senator Bratton and others have maintained that the department was not living up to the letter of the law. The air commerce act of 1926 obligated the department to investigate air accidents and make public its reports. Since this act did not protect the department against its reports being used as evidence in civil suits, the department puts its own interpretation on the act.

FIVE APACHES DIE IN BATTLE WITH RANCHERS Mining Camp on Guard for Possible Attack by Wild Indians. By United Press DOUGLAS, Ariz.. March 6.—The little mining camp of Bacerac was on guard today for a possible attack by a band of wild Apache Indians, which, according to Joseph Connell, lost five of its members in a fight with border ranchers. Moroni Finn, rancher and prospector, was wounded slightly and had his horse shot from under him as he led fellow ranchers on the trail of the Apaches Friday, Connell said upon his arrival here Wednesday night. The battle occurred in the barren country near Bacerac, Sonora, after ranchers found their cattle and horses disappearing and rode out to find the marauders. More than twenty Indians were in ambush when the cattlemen overtook the band and fighting was severe for several minutes, Connell said. He reported five Apaches were known to have been killed.
