USE TANNIC ACID TO TREAT CHILD BURNS Reduction of Mortality Probable Through New Method. By Science Service LONDON, March 5.—Recovery of greater numbers of child victims of burns may result from wider application of anew method of treatment, making use of tannic acid, it appears from recently reported experiments. The method was devised by Dr. Edward C. Davidson of Detroit. Recent successful results with it have been reported by Dr. W. C. Wilson, who used it in the treatment of a number of small patients at the Edinburgh Hospital for Sick Children and the Royal infirmary at Edinburgh. Dr. Wilson found that the tannic add treatment, reduced the mortality from burns to about onequarter of that observed in another comparable series of cases. As burns in children are apt to be fatal, these figures are particularly gratifying. The tannic acid solution is sprayed on the burned areas, which first have been thoroguhly cleaned. No dressings are used and the burned area is dried, after the spraying, in hot air under a bedcage. The spraying is repeated hourly as long as necessary.

WIDER STREETS SEEN AS NEED Nash Distributor Offers Highway Relief Plan. The year 1930 should go down in automobile annals as a period of vital modernization for streets and highways of the country, in the opinion of E. L. Shaver, newly established Nash distributor, with headquarters at 400 North Capitol avenue. “It is apparent to any automobile owner who uses his car in areas about large cities or industrial centers. such as Indianapolis, that the number of improved and adequate highways leading into these centers and the number of streets in the centers themselves has not kept pace with the demands of the motorcar. "Despite the heroic-efforts made in road building and its gigantic public expenditures—which, by the way, are paid in large part by special motor vehicle taxes —traffic congestion has out-stripped road improvement. “Sound practice in any building plan, I believe, lies in meeting traffic problems as they arise, with construction methods which will bring relief at the earliest possible moment. The method which seems best now is that of widening existing highway and street pavements to the point where they best can accommodate their maximum flow of traffic, and to separate wherever possible the levels of automobile and pedestrian traffic and of intersecting automobile traffic. “In most heavy traffic areas the old 12, 16 and 18-foot highway pavements and the conventional street widths which have served automobiles in the last decade fail to meet today’s demands.”

Ingrown Nail Turns Right Out! Pain Stops Instantly! “Outgro” is a harmless antiseptic manufactured for chiropodists. However, any one can buy from the drug store a tiny bottle containing directions. A few drops of “Outgro” in the crevice of the ingrowing nail reduces inflammation and pain and so toughens the tender, sensitive skin underneath the toe nail that it can not penetrate the flesh, and the nail turns naturally outward almost over night.—Advertisement.
