PARK MATRONS WILL BE GIVEN POLICE POWERS Recreation Workers Must Give Information on Past Experience. Persons seeking recreation department positions this year will be required to fill out anew form, giving more specific information on their capabilities. Recreation Director Davis S. Kilgore announced today. The new form approved by the park board required more detailed data on the general experience, education and capability for the job desired. Steps are being taken to provide special police powers for matrons at community buildings to conform with the city ordinance requiring a police matron present at all dances. Police Chief Jerry E. Kinney will assign an officer to lecture to the park matrons on “Supervision of Dances.” Miss Lulla Landers, assistant recreation director, proposed to the park board that the matrons be cal. ed hostesses since they are acting as “civic hostesses’* in addition to being matrons. "The name hostess Is a higher type term,” Miss Landers said. The park board authorized miniature golf courses for “putting” at several points in the city. The recreation department plans to provide activities for downtown women employes in community recreation centers in co-operation with the Y. W. C. A. The Girl Scouts may inaugurate a program for cooperation with playground Instructors in the various centers. All girl' Instructors will be 20 years old or more, It was decided. The D. A. R. plans to present flags for community houses, PROSPERITY PREDICTED Statistical Expert Forecasts Active Business Conditions in 1930. A period of high business and industrial activity in 1930 which will rival any period of prosperity this country has known, was the prediction of Robert M. Davis, a New York statistical expert, In an address Thursday at an open forum of the Chamber of Commerce. Davis is statistical editor of the McGraw-Hill Publishing Company and consultant for the national advisory committee on the census of manufacturers appointed by the secretary of commerce. He Is completing a 14,000-mile nation-wide tour assisting Dr. W. M. Steuart, director of the United States bureau of census, to acquaint manufacturers and distributers with facts of the fifteenth census. BROSSMAN GIVEN POST Charles Brossman, consulting engineer. has been appointed a member of the Indiana Building Council with the aproval of Governor Harry G. Leslie. He will serve four years. Brossman Is president of the Indiana Engineering Society.

BLAZE TOLL IS HEAVY Carelessness Blamed for Thirteen Daily Fires In London. LONDON. Feb. 28.—London’s several fire departments have been kept busy during the last year. On
an average there are more than thirteen fires a day here. The annual toll of fires in this city is 5,000 and a great many of these flames are caused through carelessness. The cost of these fires runs more than $50,000 a day.

Dozen Charges Face Mayor By United Press STUTTGART, Feb. 28.—Charged with a dozen crimes from larceny to conspiracy in a bankruptcy fraud case, the mayor of the village of Erbach was sentenced to three-year prison term.
