Two essential features for efficient refrigeration are: First, top, back, bottom, ends and all doors, should be lined with cork board, wrapped in water-proof paper, which forms the best insulation known. Second, rubber gaskets on all doors eliminate heat leakage and insure tight fitting doors. These features are combined in all Polar refrigerators.

UNION TRACTION GIVES SHIPPERS FREE CARTAGE Line Arranges to Absorb Cost of Delivery and Pick-up Service. Arrangements having the effect of giving freight and express shippers benefit of pickup or delivery service at tnelr doors will be placed in effect Monday, Feb. 24, at twenty-three principal stations of the Union Traction lines. Under this arrangement, the Union Traction Company and connecting electric railways will, under certain conditions, refund or absorb the expense of trucking freight and express between the freight houses and the shippers’ places of business, according to F. D. Norviel, general passenger and freight agent. Shippers, to secure this benefit, are required to furnish certain minimum tonnages of freight, depending on its classification, and ranging from 2,500 to 10,000 pounds or more. Employes Added The Union Traction Company is making extensive preparations to inform shippers of the new arrangements and to handle the very considerable increase in tonnage which will result. It is expected additional employes will be needed at the local freight house and other facilities will be made necessary, Norviel said. Union Traction lines, north and east from Indianapolis, have been a favorite route for shippers of freight and express, not only to points reached by the lines, but to points hundreds of miles beyond, reached by connecting electrical railways and truck lines, with which through rates are in effect, Norviel said. The new arrangement is provided to make it more profitable and desirable for shippers to use this fast convenient route. Freight shipments may be brought to the main freight house on Kentucky avenue, or to the north side freight house, Nineteenth and Martindale avenue, under the new arrangements. Receive Shipments Information concerning the service may be obtained from P. L. Joyce, local division passenger and freight agent, or from Gaven Stuart, general agent for the company, at the Indianapolis freight house, or upon written inquiry addressed to the traffic department at Anderson, Ind. Passenger business of the company has held up surprisingly well under the recent business conditions, Norviel said, due largely to popularity of the 500 penny coupon books, sold for $4, the low weekend excursion fares to hundreds of points and to the convenience of the passenger transportation service maintained by the Union Traction Company.

Food refrigerated with artificial ice can be kept for any length of time without any depreciable loss of moisture. Health and happiness,

(•he said, are the greatest assets of ! mankind, and these are maintained only by proper food preservation. Meats and vegetables maintain their full food values when preserved with artificial ice, he added. The Artificial Ice and Cold | Storage is centrally located and with its modern equipment is able to deliver ice on short notice to any part of the city. The company maintains a large number of stations in the outlying districts of the city in order to pro- | vide the best possible service for its patrons. Ice manufactured by the company is made of water continuously agitated by means of air under compression while it is being frozen. This insures ice free from contamination as impurities are confined to the small core which is pumped out and refilled with pure water before the cake is completely frozen.

SPRING PLATING RUSH STARTED MUCH EARLIER Demand for Chrome Finish on Automobiles Shows Large Increase. The spring rush for plating work | has started two months earlier this : year than usual, according to Albert P. Kriese, production manager of Adams Plating Company, 138 West Tenth street. Ordinarily, December, January February and March are dull months in the plating business but this year business has not slumped these mon hs, Kriese said. The Adams Platine Company I has been forced to maintain a night | force on the job almost continuously since Jan. 1. From present conditions, the business outlook for this year is excellent, he added. Finish Beautiful A large proportion of the com- | pany’s work at this time is the plating of automobile parts, including headlights, bumpers, radiator shells, hub caps, door handies and other nickeled parts. Demand is principally for chrome plating, Kriese said, because of its beautiful, enduring and non-tar-nishing finish, although the firm also handles nickel plating work. Chromium plating is the latest development in the plating industry. Many automobile manufacturers now' chrome plate their cars ! at the factory. Build Up Business Hundreds of owners of cars purchased before the factories adopted the new finish, are taking their radiator shells, head lights and bumpers to the Adams Plating Company for chrome plating. The firm w'as organized ten years ago by Thomas, Robert and Edward Adams, the present owners, who by taking an active part in operation of the plant, insure highest efficiency and quality work at a reasonable price. Starting with nothing, they have built up a $70,000 annual business. Clinton Man Kills Seif By United Press CLINTON, Ind., Feb. 22. John Jones, 68, committed suicide in his home here by shooting.
