BODIES OF TWO ARCTIC FLIERS ON WAT HOME Relatives Await Return of Crash Victims’ Cortege From Far North. n r nit,if I'm* NOME, Ala.'ka. Feb. 21.—Accompanied by an escort of American and Soviet rescue planes, the bodies of Carl Ben Eielson, Arctic flier, and hia mechanic, Earl Borland, were en route to Fairbanks today in planes piloted by Joe Crosson and Harold Giilam. At Fairbanks the remains of the airmen will be given into the keeping of Eielson’s father and mother, and Mrs. Borland and her two small children. Eielson and Borland are believed to have been killed about nine weeks ago when their plane crashed in a heavy fog. They were flying to the trading vessel Nanuk on a rescue mission. Soviet fliers at the scene of the wreck for some weeks, aiding in the search for the lost fliers prior to the finding of their wrecked plane by Crosson and subsequent finding of the bodies, are commended highly in dispatches for their work. The stat* department granted them permission to accompany the bodies to Fairbanks as a guard of honor. EXPLORERS GOES ON AIR Viljalmur Stefansson in Talk on Arctic From VVLVV. TL,
Here’s one reason why young cow-boys of the southwest have beer, suddenly smitten with a desire for higher education at the University of Texas. She is Helen Hall, 24-year-old riding instructor for university students, who was recently empowered to instruct boys as well as girls in the art of mastering a bronch*. And they get scholastic credit for it, too.

U.S. LIKELY TO PROVE SAVIOR OF SEA PARLEY Believed Ready to Placate France by Amending Kellogg Pact. BY WILLIAM PHILIP SIMMS Scripps-Howard Foreign Editor LONDON, Feb. 21.—As soon as the French delegation returns to London after the formation of a ne French cabinet, there is reason to believe that the American delegation will be able to make an offer on which the naval conference may be able to make or break. The belief prevails that America is prepared to agree to amend the Kellogg pact to pledge signatories to confer in event the peace of the world is menaced, providing it. is

plainly understood that such a pledge does not involve the use of the rmy or navy to enforce peace or any other international commitment. In other words. America apparently is ready to pledge herself to consult with other powers in the event the Kellojg pact is about to be violated and use her good offices to prevent war. but with the reservation that she is not bound to go beyond consultation and the exercise of good offices. If France is willing to accept this extension of the Kellogg pact, which in effect means extension of the four-power Pacific pact to cover general contingencies, a five-power accord seems assured. If not the agreement must be limited both in scope and in importance. Neither Japan nor Italy now is

regarded as a menace to a naval understanding here. Nothing has happened to change the "View that Japan will compromise her demands for 70 per cent tonnage rather than wreck the conference. Thursday it was indicated that Italy is in a reasonable frame of mind. She is willing to scrap virtually her entire navy if France will do the same. If France is not. she reserves the right simply to build a naw comparable to France’s. Even then. Italy has no intention of actually building such a navy unless it is believed that national security necessitates it. Thus France remains the key to the conference and everything now seems to depend upon whether she is prepared to accept the offer which it is believed America is prepared to make.
