TWO FROM CITY ON EXPEDITION INTO YUCATAN Exploration of Jungle for Archeological Finds Goal of Trip. William R. Teel and his daughter, Mrs. Billie Teel Tappan, 5580 Washington boulevard, axe to sail from New Orleans on an archeological expedition to Yucatan, Mexico, Feb. 25. Teel, chairman of the Archeological Society of Indiana, has been invited to be. guest of Franz Blom, director of the department of middle American research at Tulane university. New Orleans, conducting an expedition to make measurements and survey the Mayan ruins at Uxmal, Yucatan, to be reproduced full size at the Chicago exposition in 1933. Leaving the port of Progresso, Yucatan, they will journey inland to Merida, an old Spanish town of over 100,000 population, made up mostly of Mexicans, Spaniards, Indians and Chinese, Teel said, and from there into the jungle to the ruins, where the expedition has a camp. Not far distant is another Mayan ruins at Chichenitza, famous for the sacrificial well, which Teel also intends to visit. This well came into prominence recently when Richard Halliburton dived into it and Colonel Lindbergh flew over it while making his Central American flight. “The jungle is so thick in this part of the world,” Teel said, “that it rarely is penetrated except by Indians who gather chicle, a product that has made the country synonimous with chewing gum! A few feet from the paths of the Indians may lie hundreds of other ruins unknown to any one.”

BRITISH KING'S SISTER MARKS 63RD BIRTHDAY Princess Louise Neglects Court Functions; Chief Hobby Is Charity. By United Press LONDON, Feb. 20. — Princess Louise, Princess Royal, Duchess of Fife, and eldest sister of King George, celebrated the sixty-third anniversary of her birthday today. Her royal brother is 64. Naturally quiet and retiring, the princess royal as she usually is called, participates less than any other member of the royal family in social and state functions. Charity is her chief hobby, but her activities even in this direction have been curtailed during the last year, partly on account of her age and partly because of an illness. Last November the princess contracted a chill while at her country residence, Braemar, Scotland. The chill worsened into bronchitis, and Lord Dawson of Penn, the King’s physician, made a hurried trip from London to attend her. Grave fears were entertained for a while, but then the princess rallied sufficiently to allow her return to the warmer climate of London. Princess Louise from the age of 10 developed a keen distaste for court routine. Her brother, King George, then only a midshipman in the British navy and second in line to the throne, one day drew his sword and “dubbed” his sister "Her Royal Shyness,” a title which she has borne ever since. She was not created princess royal until 1905. A great favorite of Queen Victoria, her grandmother, she was slated from an early age for a diplomatic marriage with a prominent continental prince. Louise, however, defied her grandmother and the entire royal household, declaring that she would marry "for love.” She was married in July, 1889 to Lord Alexander, sixth Earl of Fife, who was created a duke at the wedding breakfast.
