Secretary of State Henry L. Stimaon will make his headquarters at his country home, Stanmore, until next Wednesday, when the conference convenes once mrore. Feb. 20.—Desperate efforts were made today to save the lives of the burn-tortured survivors of the triple explosion at the Bayway refinery of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, which so far, had taken a death toll of eleven men. Thirty husky refinery employes volunteered to give blood for the injured. Transfusions were performed throughout the night by physicians and nurses, fatigued from their unceasing fight against death, which seems to hover over at least eighteen of the injured blast victims. SEEK IDENTITY OF MAN FOUND IN RIVER Coroner Says Head Wound Probably Inflicted After Drowning. Attempts were continued today by police and Coroner C. H. Keever to identify the body of a man, about 50, taken from White river at West street early Wednesday. Several persons who viewed the body Wednesday at Royster and Askin undertaking establishment, failed to recognize the man. The only clue to his identity is a Jewish welfare fund bond, on which the name Isaac is legible. The last name can not be deciphered, Coroner Keever declares. Keever said he believed a cut over one eye, which led police to advance a murder theory, probably was inflicted after the man was drowned. HELD ON BOOZE CHARGE Earl Ruddle Arrested After Police Allege Liquor Confiscation. Charged with transporting liquor, Earl Ruddle, 1619 Kessler boulevard, was bound over to the grand jury on a $2,500 bond by John W. Kern, United States c o m m i s s i o n e r, Wednesday. Ruddle was arrested when officers jumped on the running board of his car in the rear of 1122 Minkner street, and confiscated a five-gallon jug of whisky, they said.

BIRTHPLACE OF WASHINGTON TO BECOME PARK Transfer of Property by War Department Due Next Week. BY ROBERT C. ALBRIGHT United Press Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON, Feb. 20.—The plot of ground on which George Washington was born will pass from war department supervision into the national park system next week. , The United States engineers’ office, until recently custodian for the little twelve-acre tract at Wakefield, Va., will release the property to the interior department at the close of the month, Major Brehon B. Somervell, in charge of the office, announced today. Before the bicentennial celebration of Washington’s birth in 1932, a reproduction of the old colonial homestead will rise from the present ruins. When work of restoring the Washington home is completed, this too must be transferred to the national park system, congress stipulated in legislation providing for the change in custody. To speed up the work of restoration, congress recently appropriated $15,000 for the removal of a granite monument, which in 1879 was placed over the birthplace by the government. It authorized $50,000 for the use of the Wakefield National Memorial Association in its reconstruction work. Old records of the association show that Augustine, Washington’s father, built the mansion in which Washington was born, in 1718. The house burned on Christmas, 1880, and only its foundations remain. The Washington family first settled on a part of the present Wakefield estate in March, 1665. The founder. Colonel John Washington, great-grandfather of George Washington, having come from England to Westmoreland, Va., in 1656. Between three and four years after the birth of George Washington, his parents moved with their son to another estate of 2,500 acres, which embraced the present Mount Vernon. I. U.
