1.0. P. CHIEFS GRANT CHANGES IN STATE RULES Power of County Chairmen Clipped in Effort to Placate Voters. BV BEX STERN With the prediction boldly painted that unless the Republican state committee does something toHtemedy the Marion county organization situation the county may be lost to the party in the fall, rules t r.ding to ameliorate the situation have been adopted Concessions, which when aslred two years ago were met with rebuffs, today are in force and indicate plainly that the Repub'ican .V aders see the necessity ol wooing ih< disaffected. With but few changes the state committee, at its meeting Tuesday, adopted the rules asked by a delegation lrom the Marion Club, headed by Ralph Kane, local attorney. Power Is Weakened Serving to weaken the autocratic power of the county chairman and removing the bolster of his perpetuation in office—known as the ouster rule—the new committee statute declares that: Precinct committeemen apd vicecommitteemen shall be subject to removal only lor neglect of duty, inefficiency or disloyalty to the Republican party on written charges filed with the secretary of the '■ounty committee and upon at least three days’ notice to the accused. Th§ accused shall be entitled to a trial before the county chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer of the committee and may appear in person or by attorney, and. if removed, shall have the right of appeal to that body under its rules. In urging adoption of such a rule. Kane asked that the trial be held before the entire county committee, which in Marion county embraces more than 600 members. Method Unwield Both William L. Taylor, Seventh district chairman, and Marlin Hugg, Marion county chairman declared that such a course would be unwield and that it would be extremely difficult to assemble the committeemen for a trial. A second rule proposed by Kane provided that ward chairmen be elected by precinct committeemen and vice-committeemen of the ward and be an elector in that ward. Upon recommendation of both Taylor and Hugg this was changed to read that the ward chairman be selected by the county chairman and the names submitted to the precinct! committeemen of the ward for approval. It set the slate convention for June 5 and declared that it would; be a one-day meeting. The committee also announced -

county committee would take place May 10; district committees, May 13, and the state committee, May 14. In Marion county the district and county committees reorganize on May 10. Without mincing words, yet refraining to mention Coffin? by name. Kane spread the Marion county-or-ganization’s dirty linen before the eyes of the state committee. He boldly stated that there must be something wrong with an organization whose conduct converts a normally Republican majority of 30,000 into Democratic victory by the same number. And he declared

that Republicans, disgusted with Coffin rule and ouster of duly elected precinct committeemen, voted the Democratic ticket. By innuendo. Kane inferred that the same might happen this fall if some drastic changes for the better were not made. Shrine to Governor JACKSON. STATE VISITORS IN ATTENDANCE AT AUTO SHOW Crowds From Out-of-Town Greatest in History of City Exhibit. “It's the greatest Indiana show we ever have had,” declared Harlow Hyde, executive secretary of the Indianapolis Auto Trade Association, today after Tuesday contributed to record breaking attendance at the 1030 Auto Show, at state fairground. None of the eighteen previous displays has attracted so many persons living outside Marion county, Hyde said. He attributed success of the show to improvements in exhibits, decorations and apportionment of space to allow more convenient traffic for crowds inside the building. Dealers’ meetings, in connection with the show, continued today. Hupmobile dealers from all sections of the state were guests of the Capitol Motors Company today, when R. S. Cole, vice-president in
