‘JOB JUSTICE' 15 URGED FOR CITY NEGROES 'Stores Patronized by Race Refuse EmploymeN Says Attorney. The Negro should demand a lair break and chance as an American citizen and fight until he gets It,” declared H. J. Richardson, attorney, addressing a mass meeting of Negroes Sunday night at the Institutional A. M. E. church. Twentyfirst and Boulevard place. The Rev. Charles Sumner Williams, pastor, introduced the attorney, who spoke on ‘‘Negro Labor Conditions in Indianapolis." Attorney Richardson said, “In 1929, two thousand Negro foundrymen. porters, jaYiitors. waiters, domestic help and elevator operators were dismissed from their jobs without notice or cause. In many cases these jobs were given to foreign bom laborers.” “Two hundred and fifty community stores in Indianapolis are supported mainly by Negroes,” asserted Richardson, "but only 8 per cent, or twenty of these firms offer employment to Negroes.” Urges Ist of Ballot Richardson said, “the Negro’s greatest weapon is the ballot and the right to vote and that he should use this privilege wisely in selecting men to office in city and state government.” The address forms a link In a vigorous campaign being waged by Negro leaders to ilnd lob* for thousands of Negroes out of work for various causes.
