PRESIDENT WILL BRING FISHING TRIP TO CLOSE Hoover Cuts Stay Two Days; Hughes’ Appointment Gratifying. BY JOSEPH H. BAIRD Pnltrd Trr Staff Correspondent LONG KEY, Fla.. Feb. 14 President Hoover has decided to cut his fishing vacation short by two days and will arrive in Washington Monday rather Wednesday. The President's decision, an associate said today, did not result from the pressure of public business. Mr. Hoover, it was explained, did not want to fish Sunday. Remaining here until Monday night would have given him only one more fishing day. Press reports of the senate's confirmation of Charles Evans Hughes as chief Justice of the supreme court reached Mr. Hoover by motorboat courier soon after they were flashed over the wire from Washington. He received the news with gratification. Hoover and his fishing party left here shortly after breakfast today aboard the houseboat Saunterer for Sombrero light, twenty miles south, for what will be their last long fishing cruise here. The Saunterer was accompanied by a flotilla of five other boats, including a coast guard cutter. APPOINTMENT MADE AT SECRET BOARD SESSION Former East Chicago Police Captain Again Holds Position. By l nitrii Frees EAST CHICAGO, Ind., Feb. 14. Nicholas Makar, ousted as police captain here four years ago, was appointed to his old post at a secret meeting of the East Chicago safety board. Makar is affiliated with the Frank Callahan faction of the Republican party and his appointment was seen as an effort of Mayor Thomas O'Connor to realign the party after the shakeup, caused by the resignation of former Mayor Raleigh P. Hale. Hale, convicted with fourteen others on charges on conspiracy to violate the federal liquor laws, will be sentenced in federal court at Hammond March 3. No action has been taken to appoint a successor to James W. Regan, who resigned as police chief after his conviction with Hale. DISCHARGED TEACHER WINS TILT IN COURT PV Times Spreinl VALPARAISO. Ind., Feb. 14. Mrs. Mary Shepherd, school teacher, who is jobless following complaints of patrons, one of whom said she was “not up-to-date,” has won the first round of a fight to compel Vernon L. Beach, Center township trustee, to give her a job. In Forter circuit court here, a demurrer by Beach's counsel, asserting Mrs. Shepherd’s complaint should be dismissed on the ground that a mandamus proceeding was not the proper method, was overruled. Charging she was dismissed without cause and without a hearing, Mrs. Beach, a teacher in Center township eight years, sets out that she was not hired for the 1929-30 term.

For any BABY

We can never be sure just what makes an infant restless, but the remedy can always be the same. Good old Castoria! There’s comfort in every drop of this pure vegetable preparation, and not the slightest harm in its frequent use. As often as Baby has a fretful spell, is feverish, or cries and can t sleep, let Castoria soothe and quiet him. Sometimes it's a touch of colic. Sometimes constipation. Or diarrhea —a condition that should always be checked without delay. Just keep Castoria handy, and give it promptly. Relief will follow

the high administrative bodies of the church, addressed a circular to bishops all over the world, in which bishops, parish priests, fathers, mothers, heads of school and educational institutions are reminded of their duty to promote decent fashions. The circular contains twelve clauses. One provides that women indecently dressed can not receive holy communion, nor act as godmothers in baptisms or confirmations and must be expelled from churches if necessary. The rules must be enforced rigidly on big feast days particularly the feast of the Immaculate Conception. The circular urges diocesan councils to discuss, at least once yearly, the best means of promoting fashions in conformity with the Christian spirit. Bishops are ordered to include their triennial report to the
