Leslie was a White House caller today, .spending twenty minutes in conference with President Hoover at the executive office. Leslie planned to discuss a number of matters with chief executive, but declared he came to Washington on no special mission. White house officials likewise staged the conversation between the Governor and President was “general.” Report that Leslie had come here in an attempt to break the long deadlock over appointment of anew Indiana collector of internal revenue found support after his White House call to confer with Senators James E. Watson and Arthur R. Robinson. White House attaches denied, however, that the Governor had been summoned for a discussion of the appointment row. Leslie pledges his support to plans Os several members of the Indiana congressional delegation to secure federal flood control aid for southwestern Indiana. ‘‘l am in entire sympathy with the movement to end this annual disaster,” Leslie said. “I plan to confer with members of the Indiana delegation on some definite program to .secure legislation." After dining privately with Senator James E. Watson and Mrs. Watson, Thursday night. Governor and Mrs. Leslie accompanied them to the reception given by the President and Mrs. Hoover in compliment to the senate. The Leslies met Mrs. Dolly Gann and her brother, Vice-President Charles Curtis and repeated their invitation to Mrs. Gann, her husband, Edward Eyerett Gann, and the Vice-President, for them to be the Leslies’ guests when they visit Indianapolis March 8 to attend the banquet of the Indiana ttepublican Editorial Association. Gann said he would be unable to make the trip. The V.fe-President and Mrs. Gann have accepted the Leslie invitation. President Hoover has asked Governor Leslie and Mrs. Leslie to be his dinner guests at the White House Saturday night. Members of the Indiana delegation arc arranging a luncheon for the Governor Saturday, but plans have not been completed, due to conflicting committee engagements of some members. MENTAL EXPERT HOLDS SLAYER OF TWO SANE State Assails Defense Plea in Wood Murder Trial. Bn United Press MUNCIE, Ind., Jan. 31.—State’s atiomeys today attacked the theory of the defense that James E. S. Wood, on trial charged with the murder of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Heath, was unable to do heavy manual labor because of his physical and mental condition. Witnesses testified Wood was a “giant in strength.” David Miller, who said he had worked with Wood from May 7 to Aug. 10. said Wood carried heavy bundles of shingles, mortar and concrete ten hours a day. Miss Josephine Clevenger, formerly with the Central State hospital at Indianapolis ar.d psychiatrist at the Indiana Girls' school at Clermont, testified she believed Wood sane. She said his actions while under her observations were those of a rational person. The defense rested its case late Thursday. It was believed today that it will be at least Tuesday before the case goes to the jury.

Bankers Like Small Currency
\ FTER a six months' trial Uncle Sam today was acquitted by Indijf\_ anapolis bankers of muddling up the nation’s banking affairs. Unc’s trial came with the issuance of the new “spinach.” “maztima.” or “whatyoumaycall” the present cigar-coupon greenbacks in July of 1929. It was then that a dirge of a disgust wreathed the tellers’ faces as they fingered the small calling cards which make the last payment on the family washer. But now they are almost unanimous in their praise for the new puppy currency.
“It’s easier to count than the old money; my tellers like it," declared Frank Wocher. vice-presi-dent of Fletcher American National bank. “You can count the new money faster. We're not circulating the old money. Almost as quick as it comes in it is sent back to the government. Other tellers seem to find it easier to handle,” explained Edward Klier, 949 North Chester, teller at the Indiana National bank. a b a BUT Klier's boss, G. F. Patterson, vice-president of the bank, has a personal dislike for the bills. “They curl up on you in your pocketbook. I don’t like them. But ask the tellers about it, they handle them.’’ he said. M. A. De Wees, paying teller at the Merchants National bank, sided with Klier's views as to the ease in handling. “Os course,” he said, “until we see more samples of counterfeit bills of the new issues we won’t be as well fortified for guarding against the bogus.” Officials of the Meyer-Kiser bank were unanimous in their praise of the money. But from Allan Gilmour, assistant secretary of the United Labor Bank and Trust Company, comes a dissenting note with, “I can’t count it as fast as the old money. Our customers like it better, but it isn't as easy to handle. Why! Say I've a couple of friends working for a bank-note company who
you can protect tier lovely hair/ Millons of men ana women know how Danderine helps stop falling hair and dissolves the worst crust of dandruff; how easily it changes dull, lustreless, brittle hair into hair that is soft, sparkling, vigorous. With Danderine it is so easy to “train” a child’s hair; to keep it orderly, sparkling, clean. Danderine accentuates the natural curl of a child's hair. A girl’s “waves” look more natural when “set” with it. And they tsay in longer. Use Danderine with children to overcome the evils of frequent washing. It puts back into hair and scalp the natural oils removed by soap and water. Danderine isn’t sticky or oily: doesn’t show. It is no trouble to use. Just put a little on the brush each time the hair is arranged. That wail keep the scalp healthy and encourage the growth of long, silky and abundant hair. Five million bottles used a year is proof of Danderine’s effectiveness. Danderine The One Minute Hair Beautifier AT ALL DRUG STORES—THIRTY FIVE CENTS
say they can make as good a bill as the government, so that until we have a better list of counterfeits on the new money, we’ll have a hard time.” Discussion of counterfeiting of paper currency among bankers always ends in a discussion of the feasibility of using water-marked paper in its manufacture, to protect against money raisers. Some favor it, some don’t, but they’re almost of a single voice in singing a hosanna of praise for the effeminate green goods of 1930's money mart.

OFFICIAL PROBE OF RACE RIOTS IS UNDER WAY Filipino Outbreak Scenes Quiet: View Situation With Alarm. BY GEORGE D. CRISSEY Inited Press Staff Correspondent SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 31.—An official investigation in California, and plans for observance of a “national humiliation day” in Manila were under way today as a result of race riots between Filipino and white laborers. Although the scenes of the recent California riots were quiet, the situation was viewed here as serious. Six thousand miles away, in Manila, a similar tenseness prevailed, according to United Press cablegrams. Takes Official Action Governor C. C. Young of California took official action when he intimated he intended appointing a commission to Investigate the cause of the riots. He denounced the disturbances and pledged his faith in the “common sense of the people of California” to refrain from drastic acts. Authorities in Manila echoed the plea of Governor Young and asked the Filipino people to be quiet and to recognize the fact that the islanders have many friends among the Americans. In California it is recognized generally that feeling against general immigration of Filipinos is intense. and the recent riots have added much to that feeling. Start Agitation In Manila, United Press cablegrams said, the California riots had
done much toward increasing agitation for independence. Next Sunday the Filipinos will hold necrological services in Manila's central park, and will unite in mourning for Fermin Tobera,
For COLD 8 We all catch colds and they can make us miserable; but yours needn’t last long if you will do this: Take two or three tablets of Bayer Aspirin just as soon as possible after a cold starts. Stay in the house if you can —keep warm. Repeat with another tablet or two of Bayer Aspirin every three or four hours, if those symptoms ot cold persist. Take a good laxative when you retire, and keep bowels open. If throat is sore, dissolve tliree tablets in a quarter-glassful of water and gargle. This soothes inflammation and reduces infection. There is nothing like Bayer Aspirin for a cold, or sore throat. And it relieves aches and pains almost instantly. The genuine tablets, marked Bayer, are absolutely harmless to the heart. fit AYER ASPIHIN Aspirin is the trade mark oi Bayer Manufacture ot Monoaceticacidester of Salicyhcacid
